Raleigh — On Feb. 25, as part of the Piedmont Improvement Program, N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will begin to permanently close sections of South Harris Street in China Grove, in Rowan County.

The sections being closed are:

•    A 500 foot section from Centerview Street heading south

•    South Harris Street between Chapel Street and Keller Street

•    South Harris Street between John Street and Haney Street

The contractor will be constructing cul-de-sacs on Chapel Street, Keller Street, John Street and Haney Street. During the closures, residents will have access to their homes until permanent driveways and cul-de-sac’s are built.

Work is expected to be completed by June 1,

As part of the same plan, contractors will be temporarily closing Centerview Street between Main Street and Harris Street in China Grove.

The closure is being done so crews can install a new water and sewer line. Construction is expected to begin on March 1 and be completed by April 1.

To avoid a long-term closure of Centerview Street until the second track is constructed, crews will reopen the road following this work. A future temporary closure will also be necessary to complete track work at the railroad crossing.

Motorists traveling in the area can use the signed detour route that will take them along Centerview Street, U.S. 29 connector, U.S. 29 and North Main Street.
