Area Sports Briefs: Carson girls win

Carson girls coach Brooke Misenheimer started out 4-67 in her first three seasons with the Cougars, but she’s hung in there, and she and her team celebrated her 100th victory on Tuesday.
Carson won 64-43 at Concord.
Sydney Huffman, a senior who is finishing strong, scored 19 for the Cougars, including 15 in the first half.
Alex Allen scored in double figures for the 47th consecutive game. She had 14 points.
Olivia Gabriel, who is having a great freshman season, had 12 for the Cougars.
Carson led only 35-32 at halftime, but it held Concord to 11 after the break.
“We really locked down defensively in the second half,” Misenheimer said. “And we had some of our best offensive execution of the season.”

Girls basketball
A.L. Brown’s girls lost 49-48 at Hough when a last-second shot rolled out.
Aitana Grant and Jemysa Stanback scored 12 apiece for the Wonders.
• Gabby Smith scored 19, Laura McManimen had 13, and Stacia Means scored 11, as Hickory Ridge’s rolled 75-32 against Northwest Cabarrus on Tuesday.
• Davie County’s girls cruised to a 63-15 win against Parkland on Tuesday. Aubriana Peebles scored 14 points, and Ashly Hampton had 12 for the War Eagles.
Boys basketball
A.L. Brown upset Hough 57-56 in MECKA action on Tuesday in Cornelius.
Joekeem Neal made a coast-to-cast drive for the Wonders, who called timeout after a missed Hough free throw with 3.8 seconds left.
Jaylon Neal scored 17 for the Wonders. Joekeem Neal and Damon Johnson scored 13 apiece.
• Davie County lost 81-74 to Parkland on Tuesday in the CPC.
Cooper Wall scored 28 for the War Eagles. Jordan McDaniel had 16, and Holden Poole scored nine.
• Daniel Spencer scored 23 points to lead Robinson to a 56-53 MECKA win against North Meck.
C.J. Bryce scored 23 for North Meck.
• Jaylen Stowe scored 20 points to lead Hickory Ridge to a 68-57 win against Northwest Cabarrus.
Avery Metcalf scored 18 for the Ragin’ Bulls.
Dalton Hathcock had 16 for the Trojans.
Jayvee basketball
Carson’s jayvee boys lost 68-64 at Concord, the first loss of the season for the Cougars.
Jailen Williams scored 24 for Carson.
Owen White scored 14, A.J. Banks had nine, Elijah Moss scored eight, and Cameron Prugh had seven for the Cougars.
Athlete of the week
Khaila Hall of West Rowan and Donshae Miller of Southside High School in Chocowinity are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards.
Hall had a great week for the Falcons. scoring scoring 26 points in a 62-48 loss to Jesse Carson and then pouring in a career-best 34 points in a 57-50 victory on the road against Central Cabarrus.
Prep wrestling
A.L. Brown and Davie advanced in the 4A wrestling dual team playoffs on Tuesday.
The Wonders topped T.C. Roberson and South Meck.
Davie won against Porter Ridge and Greensboro Smith.
Women’s hoops
Livingstone (20-0) is No. 8 in the USA Today Sports Top 25 poll.
Livingstone is at home this Saturday against Shaw at 5:30 p.m.
• Livingstone’s Anita Howard was named CIAA Coach of the Week once again.
College baseball
Catawba shortstop Dylan Richardson was named South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Thomas St. Clair from Lenoir-Rhyne was tabbed South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Richardson, a junior from Randleman, batted .727 with eight hits, three doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs to lead the Catawba Indians to a series win against Belmont Abbey.
Pfeiffer basketball
Pfeiffer’s Mike Smith was selected as the Division II Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Smith led the Falcons to a 76-73 win at King with 35 points.
College softball
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced 50 athletes were selected to the watch list for the inaugural Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Player of the Year award.
Included on the watch list is Catawba junior pitcher Carley Tysinger.
Tysinger had a 1.29 ERA in 189.2 innings to rank 13th in Division II.
Tysinger had 293 strikeouts, including a single- game record of 27 during the conference tournament. Her strikeout total ranked sixth in the nation.
Sacred Heart hoops
Sacred Heart’s varsity boys won 40-12 against Salisbury Academy.
Bill Fisher and Blaine Shellhorn led the Dolphins with 13 points each.
Jack Fisher had seven points and 22 rebounds.
For Salisbury Academy, Charlie Barr scored five.
• Sacred Heart’s varsity girls won 41-24 against Salisbury Academy.
Mary Sobataka scored 31 for the Dolphins.
For Salisbury Academy, Katie Leckonby had 12 points. Ellen Simons scored seven.
Sacred Heart plays in the tournament semifinals at Triad Baptist Academy in Kernersville on Friday. The girls play at 2 p.m., with the boys at 4:30.
North Hills hoops
The North Hills elementary school girls won 22-21 against Davidson Community.
Elizabeth Jones scored 14 points.
