A 19-point second quarter propelled Salisbury to a 22-point win Tuesday at Lexington.  The Hornets pounded the Yellow Jackets 49-27.

Balance was the key for Salisbury (4-17, 2-5 CCC) as Maria Capito, Breya Philpott and Bryanna Caldwell each scored 11 points.

Angelica Rice led Lexington (5-12, 2-5 CCC) with nine points and Kahari Sanders had seven. The Jackets dressed just nine players. Among the missing was injured starter Emerson Hayes.

Lexington kept it close for just over a quarter. The Jackets trailed 10-8 after the first eight minutes and were within 15-11 with six minutes left in the half when Rice hit one of two free throws.

But then the Hornets busted it wide open with an 18-0 run that spanned the second and third quarters as Capito hit a pair of 3-pointers and Caldwell sank one from long range. By the time Caldwell drove coast-to-coast for a layup, it was 33-11 early in the third quarter and the game was out of reach for Lexington.

Salisbury hosts Thomasville on Friday while Lexington visits East Davidson that same night.
