Kelli Fisher had 23 points and 16 rebounds as East Rowan’s girls won 55-32 at Northwest Cabarrus on Friday.

Amani Ajayi had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs, who stayed tied for first place in the SPC.

Savannah Lambert and Joy Smith scored 10 each for the Trojans.

• Khaila Hall scored a career-high 34 points to lead West Rowan to a 57-50 win at Central Cabarrus on Friday.

Hall, a junior has 981 career points.

Taylor Martin scored 12  points for the Falcons.

Mahaley Holit and Kasey Rowden scored 14 each for the Vikings.

The Falcons moved into a tie for fourth with Central Cabarrus and Carson.

• A.L. Brown won 54-45 against Robinson in a MECKA upet on Friday.

Aitana Grant led the Wonders with 14 points. Kyla Downs scored 11, and Esther Kituku and Sascha McCoy scored eight each.

• A.L. Brown’s boys lost 64-62 to Robinson.

Tyree Cummings had 19  points for the Wonders. Joekeem Neal had 17 points and five assists.

• Davie’s boys led at halftime but couldn’t hold off R.J. Reynolds 71-60 in CPC action on Friday.

Cooper Wall scored 17 for the War Eagles. Heath Slabach had 15, and Jordan McDaniel scored 10. Holden Poole added nine.

Aaron Reynolds scored 18 for the Demons.

• Davie’s girls lost 79-39 to the unbeaten Demons.

• T.J. Jones scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Cox Mill boys beat Concord 69-68 in a matchup of SPC contenders on Friday.

Jayvee basketball

Carson’s boys stayed unbeaten with a 56-35 victory against South Rowan on Friday.

Owen White scored 19 points, Cameron Prugh had 12, Jailen Williams scored 10, and Elijah Moss had seven.

• East Rowan’s jayvee boys won 47-42 at Northwest Cabarrus on Friday.

Franklin Downing  led the Mustangs with 13 points, and and Tate Houpe had 11.  Ellis Taylor scored nine, and Bryson Sprinkle had seven for the Mustangs (10-6).

7th-grade hoops

In Erwin’s 43-1 win against North Rowan Middle, Adalie Harrison scored 12 for the Eagles.

Kamden Thomas had seven,  and Maci Cooper, Caroline Houpe and Jordan Beaver scored six each.

College basketball

Catawba men’s basketball coach Rob Perron calls Saturday’s matchup at Carson a “double play” game.

It’s a double play in the sense that if you can sweep someone, you win a tiebreaker with that team, so a win is worth almost two wins.

Catawba (8-10, 6-7) plays at Carson-Newman (9-10,  7-6)  Saturday at 4 p.m., and  a win would not only move Catawba into a tie with Carson-Newman, it would give the Indians a season sweep of the Eagles and the tiebreaker if the teams end up with the same record.

Catawba is in a cluster in the middle of the pack in the SAC, where only two games separate the teams tied for second from the teams (including Catawba) that are tied for seventh.

Eight teams in the 12-team league qualify for the SAC tournament.

• Catawba’s women (10-8, 7-6) are in sixth place. Carson-Newman (15-4, 9-4) is tied for third.

•Livingstone’s women are ranked 11th in D-II now and will try to stay unbeaten at Winston-Salem State at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Livingstone’s men are surging, are on top of the Southern Division of the CIAA,  and will look for their sixth straight win when they tangle with the Rams at 8:30 p.m. at Joel Coliseum.

• Keshun Sherrill (West Rowan) scored 20 points to lead GRU Augusta to a 57-55 win against UNC Pembroke on Wednesday.

• Nate Jones (Davie) scored 25 points and Tre Williams (Carson) had nine as Davidson County Community College won  89-72 against Wytheville CC.

College baseball

Catawba opens the season Saturday at 1 p.m. at Belmont Abbey.

Catawba has a doubleheader scheduled against Belmont Abbey for Newman Park on Sunday, with the first pitch at 1 p.m.

Intimidators

The Kannapolis Intimidators are holding a job fair for  game-day workers on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m.

Prep wrestling

The SPC tournament is being held Saturday at Carson, while Salisbury hosts the CCC tournament.

East Rowan goalkeeper  Kennedy Lambert has committed to Averett’s women’s soccer program, and East   Rowan goalkeeper Christian Hester has committed to Averett’s men’s soccer program.

Prep football

Cade Carney, a standout running back for three seasons at Davie County, has transferred to Davidson Day for his senior football season

Carl Carney, Cade’s father,  attended East Carolina with Davidson Day coach   Chad Grier.

On the Davidson Day staff is Chad Illing, the brother of former Davie coach Doug Illing, who coached Carney his freshman year, so there are a lot of connections between Carney and Davidson Day.

Carney, a 6-foot, 210-pound running back was the CPC Offensive Player of the Year as a freshman in 2012.

Carney rushed 599 times for 3,864 yards for the War Eagles in three seasons. He rushed for 40 touchdowns, threw four touchdown passes and caught three TD passes.

His freshman season was by far his most productive offensively, but he’s battled injuries the last two seasons. He also played linebacker for the War Eagles as a junior.

Carney has scholarship offers from East Carolina, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, N.C. State and Wake Forest.

Local golf

The Country Club of Salisbury will be hosting the  North Carolina Junior Boys Championship on June 23-36.

There’s an anticipated field of 144 of the state’s best for that event. There are  no age divisions.

This will be the first time the Country Club of Salisbury has hosted the event.

The tournament starts with an 18-hole stroke play qualifier to determine seeds for match play. Defending champ Alex Smalley will be seeded No. 1 for match play.

East YMCA

The East Rowan YMCA continues to register players for a boys basketball league (ages 14-18). Registration ends Feb. 7.

Sacred Heart hoops

Sacred Heart’s varsity girls won 31-18 against Statesville Christian.

Mary Sobataka scored 18 points for the Dolphins. Olivia Dagenhart had seven.

• Sacred Heart’s jayvee girls won 17-12 against Statesville Christian. Rachel McCullough and Sutton Webb led the Dolphins.

Sacred Heart hosts the conference tournament starting on Saturday.

North Hills hoops

The North Hills middle school girls won 52-9 against Success.

Colby Edmonds scored 19 points. Audrey McGrail scored 11, Destini Phifer had eight, and Ashley Mays scored six.

• The North Hills varsity boy wons 49-47 against Piedmont Community Charter.

Leonard Murdock scored 19 points. Chris Taylor had 13, and Garrett Beck scored 10.

• The North Hills jayvee boys won 48-43 against Piedmont Community Charter.

Caleb Wallace scored 15 points. Dean Gilmore and Collin Lewis scored 11 each.
