A Salisbury woman who was struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening while crossing Statesville Boulevard has been identified.

Wanda Ivey, 62, of Lash Drive, was not far from home, Salisbury Police officials said, when she was hit by a vehicle driven near West End Plaza around 6:35 p.m.

Salisbury Police officials said she was conscious and alert at the scene, but Ivey was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The hospital did not have Ivey listed as a patient Thursday evening.

Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said the driver of the vehicle was making a turn when Ivey crossed in front of him. The driver’s name was not immediately available. The vehicle clipped Ivey, sending her into the path of oncoming traffic. The driver got out of his vehicle and stopped traffic, Lingle said.

It’s not clear if Ivey didn’t see the vehicle, Lingle said.
