A Gold Hill area man on Tuesday was arrested by Salisbury Police for multiple drug charges after allegedly trying to escape police custody.

Police arrested Rache Jamal Fortson, 24, 153 Red Pine road, Gold Hill, on charges of resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer; possession of a schedule four controlled substance and simple possession of a schedule two three four five or six substance.

Fortson’s charges came when police pulled over a car that matched the description for an earlier “shots fired” call, said Salisbury Police spokeswoman Capt. Shelia Lingle. Fortson was in a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, according to police reports.

Lingle said police found a bag of marijuana in Fortson’s back pocket during a search. While handcuffed, Lingle said Fortson began running from officers. Lingle said Fortson’s shoes and pants fell off while he was running.

Officers later caught up to Fortson and found an 110 bars of Xanax in his possession.

Fortson was also served with outstanding warrants for failure to appear charges.

Lingle said no guns were found in the car.
