Athlete of the Week: South Rowan’s Cassidy Chipman

South Rowan senior basketball player Cassidy Chipman is the Post’s Athlete of the Week.

Chipman scored 25 points in South Rowan’s 65-6 South Piedmont Conference win against  Northwest Cabarrus on Friday and reached 1,000 points for her career. She finished the night with 1,002.

South Rowan (10-5, 7-2 SPC) broke the school record for fewest points allowed in that game. That record had stood since the 1963-64 season.

Chipman played on the South Rowan  jayvee team as a freshman and scored her first two varsity points in the Raiders’ final game. She scored 328 as a sophomore, 446 as a junior, and has 226 so far this season.

A tw0-time all-county player, Chipman is averaging 15.1 points per game this season and is South Rowan’s leading rebounder with 9.0 per game.

Chipman has scored in double figures 49 times in her career. She’s scored 20 or more  points 16 times and has topped 30 points four times. Her career high is 33 points, a total she’s reached twice.
