MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan’s girls aced their midterms Friday night.
The host Falcons stood up and denied South Piedmont Conference leader Hickory Ridge in a 59-52 victory.
“We’re halfway through the conference (schedule),” coach Ashley Poole said after West (6-9 overall) squared its league record at 4-4. “And we like where we are. I’ve said all along that when this team comes to play, it’s gonna play. Now we might make a difference in the conference.”
West Rowan placed three scorers in double figures, led by junior Khaila Hall’s 24 points. Taylor Martin added 14 and Diamond Lovell had a season-best 11.
HR (13-3, 7-1) never led after Lovell cut for a layup that put West ahead 46-45 midway through the fourth quarter. Hall followed with a 3-pointer from the top of the key.
“After our last game (Tuesday’s 51-47 loss to Cox Mill) we kinda had a heart-to-heart,” Poole said. “Talking about playing with a purpose and playing up to their potential. That’s what happened out there tonight. When you play a whole game, good things happen.”
Hickory Ridge (52): Miller 12, Smith 12, Means 11, McManiemen 9, Scott 2, Weathers 2, Jones 2, Shears 1, Manley 1.
