A Salisbury man was charged with assaulting his girlfriend and cocaine possession after police responded to an incident involving the couple on Christmas Day.

Salisbury Police charged Felipe DeJesus Serrano, 31, of the 1200 block of West Fisher Street, with misdemeanor resist, obstruct, delay an officer, misdemeanor assault on a female, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and felony possession of a controlled substance schedule II.

He was held under no bond because of the domestic nature of the incident. Serrano has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.

Police responded to Serrano’s apartment shortly before 4 a.m. and spoke with his girlfriend who said she’d been punched by Serrano, a report said.

She told police Serrano hit her about two more times.

An officer found a gram of crack cocaine on Serrano after a search. When police tried to arrest Serrano he resisted. A report said it took two officers to bring Serrano under control.
