Carson plays at South Rowan Friday to headline a full slate of SPC basketball.

The other SPC games are  Central Cabarrus at West Rowan, Northwest Cabarrus at East Rowan and Cox Mill at Concord.

SPC boys

Concord (3-1) and Cox Mill (2-1) will be battling for second place. Frontrunner Hickory Ridge already has beaten both teams.

West Rowan (2-1) suffered its first league loss to Carson, while Central Cabarrus (1-2) beat Carson for its only league win. That’s not unusual in the wacky SPC.

The Falcons split with the Vikings last season.

East Rowan (1-2) started strong but has lost its last two league games and three straight overall. Northwest Cabarrus (0-3) lost close games to South Rowan and West Rowan.

Northwest Cabarrus thumped the Mustangs by 18 and 20 points last season.

South Rowan (1-3) has lost  five straight overall since winning opening night, but the Raiders should get standout guard Qwan “Q” Rhyne back soon — maybe Friday.

Carson (1-2) has won its last four meetings with the Raiders.

SPC girls

The South Rowan girls (4-0) are tied for first but don’t figure to have an easy time with Carson (2-1), which played a fine second half in a loss to A.L. Brown on Wednesday.

South Rowan won two of the rivals’ three meetings last season, including a two-point game in the state playoffs.

East Rowan senior Kelli Fisher has 996 career points entering Friday’s game with Northwest Cabarrus.

The Mustangs (2-1)  beat the Trojans (0-3)  three times last season. Fisher had two big games against NWC last season, scoring 26 and 25.

The West Rowan girls (1-2) have lost four straight overall.  Central Cabarrus (1-2) lost by one point to SPC co-leader Hickory Ridge.

Central Cabarrus swept the Falcons last season.

Cox Mill (1-2) and Concord (0-3) have struggled so far. Cox Mill picked up  a victory against winless Northwest Cabarrus.

Other games

Salisbury is at home  Friday against North Stanly in non-conference action.

Davie is at North Davidson. A.L. Brown hosts North Meck to start MECKA play.

8th-grade hoops

Janiya Downs scored 37 points as Corriher-Lipe’s girls beat Erwin 65-35.

Rhiannon Kimmer scored 16 for the Yellow Jackets. Ashlyn Plott had six.

For the Eagles, Lauren Weisensel scored 15 and Lanie Fulk had 14.

• Erwin’s boys won 52-18 against Corriher-Lipe.

Gabe Hinceman scored 10, Bryson Wagner had eight, and Christian Bennett  scored seven for the Eagles.

•  North Rowan Middle’s boys beat  West Rowan Middle 59-26.

Brevin Goodlett had 19 points, eight  rebounds and five  steals to spark the Mavericks.  Cameron Gill  had 15 points and five rebounds. Jaden Perry contributed six steals.

Robert Caldwell and Anthony Chance scored eight points apiece to lead the Bulldogs.  NRM (5-0) will travel to Mooresville on Monday.

Women’s hoops

Livingstone’s women (7-0) will play at New Trent Gym on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Glenville State.

Precious Roberts is leading the Blue Bears with 16.8 points per game.

All-MECKA teams

A.L. Brown’s Casey Abba, Noah Craddock and Jalen Jackson were named to the All-MECKA soccer team.

Jackson was an all-region player.

• A.L. Brown’s Sadie Dellinger was named to the All-MECKA tennis team.

• A.L. Brown’s Mackenzie Rodgers, Cristal Galacia and Jordan Hardeman made the All-MECKA girls golf team.
