Re: A safety concern on the Polar Express
In yesterday’s Salisbury Post, a letter to the editor was published (“A safety concern on the Polar Express,” Dec. 10) questioning the safety of The Polar Express Train Ride at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. The Polar Express
is a wonderful holiday event that is bringing joy to many families from across the region.
The production and administrative team for the event have spent many hours ensuring the safety of our cast and crew. In fact, federal regulations dictate all movement of passengers on the train cars during this event, much like there are regulations for flying on an airplane. The North Carolina Transportation Museum and Lee Street theatre are dedicated to the safety of the passengers and performers for The Polar Express and we work within strict safety guidelines at all times. While we do have performers and children that may walk between the train cars, both while the train is stopped and in motion, all of them are chaperoned by adults and have train crew members there to be sure of their safety. In addition, the train cars are designed to allow passengers to safely move between cars while the train is in motion.
Thank you for bringing up the question of safety as it relates to this event. We are glad we could clear up any confusion.
