MOUNT ULLA — Now that everyone is watching, the Carson girls basketball team has put its best foot forward.

The visiting Cougars played hermetically sealed defense Tuesday night, particularly in the second quarter when they limited West Rowan to a pair of free throws en route to a convincing 54-38 SPC victory.

The win helped Carson (3-3 overall) improve to 2-1 in the congested league standings. CHS senior Alex Allen had 15 points — 12 in the second half — while teammate Sydney Huffman contributed 12. Junior guard Taylor Martin paced West (2-4, 1-2) with 12 points.

Carson built an 11-point halftime lead before the Falcons drew within 28-21 on a 3-pointer by Khaila Hall midway through the third quarter. The Cougars responded by scoring the last eight points of the period and capped a decisive 12-0 run when Olivia Gabriel and Allen hit layups early in the fourth.
