Construction on the new Holiday Inn Express in Salisbury should begin in early January, according to the developer.

The four-story, 90-room hotel will be located on two acres of land next to the Courtyard Marriott off East Innes Street at exit 76 of Interstate 85. Both hotels are owned by BPR Properties, which is based in High Point.

Birju Patel, president of BPR Properties, said if everything goes well it should take 10 to 12 months to construct the building. He said the goal is to open the hotel by the end of 2015.

He said right now they’re waiting for the city to issue the building permit.

The two hotels will make up the loss of 181 rooms from the closing of the former Holiday Inn on Jake Alexander Boulevard.

When it opened last year, Courtyard Marriott was the city’s first new hotel construction in 13 years.

CIty Council approved the conditional district overlay  for the Holiday Inn Express in August.

BPR Properties owns hotels in North Carolina and Georgia and is currently building a $50 million Embassy Suites in uptown Charlotte.
