Livingstone’s men’s basketball team beat West Virginia State 81-75 on Sunday and finished 2-1 in a Thanksgiving tournament hosted by Elizabeth City State.

Eric Mayo scored 24 points for the Blue Bears on 11-for-16 shooting. Also in double figures were Ty Newman (12), Darresse Johnson (11) and Eric Dubose (10).

The Blue Bears (4-1) overcame 20 turnovers with a 50-34 advantage on the glass.

Livingstone  made only two 3-pointers,  but it shot 47.5 percent from the field and held West Virginia State to 34.4 percent.

Livingstone women

Livingstone’s women’s basketball team routed Paine  92-45 in Augusta, Ga., on Saturday to improve to 5-0.

Cierra York scored 22 points for the Blue Bears. Amber Curtis scored 10.

Livingstone shot 48.3 percent from the field and held the Lions to 29.5 percent.

Livingstone hosts Catawba at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

East Rowan’s Logan Shuping shot 79-70 — 149 to finish tied for second in his age group and tied for third overall in the TGF Bullet Bell Holiday Classic held at Mid-Pines and Pine Needles clubs in Pinehurst over the  weekend.

Prep hoops

West Stokes rallied from a five-point deficit in the final minute to force overtime  and beat Salisbury’s boys 62-59 on Saturday in King.

Deshawn Troutman scored 13 for the Hornets (2-1). Alex Yang had a career-high 12, and Wez Fazia scored 10.

Keyshawn Raleigh scored 20 points and  Kameron Wall   17 for the Wildcats.

Sacred Heart hoops

Sacred Heart’s varsity boys defeated the Greater Cabarrus Stallions 48-46.

Bill Fisher led the Dolphins with 20 points and 11 rebounds.  Jack Fisher had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Julian Malnar added nine points, while  Spencer Blackwell scored six.  Brody Dillon and William Austin stood out defensively.

•  Sacred Heart’s jayvee girls defeated Burlington Christian 27-24.

Rachel McCullough scored all 27 for the Dolphins. Faye Carol Shellhorn, Hannah Carr and Sutton Webb led the defense.

• McCullough scored six points in Sacred Heart’s 28-6 loss to Our Lady of Grace.

Youth sports

The Hurley YMCA Warriors competed at the JDL November All Comers Meet in Winston Salem.

Jalen Houston  had a phenomenal  day, notching  three first-place finishes and  establishing a PR in each event.

Houston won the 60-meter hurdles in 9.19 seconds, won the 60 meters in 7.7 seconds, and won the 200 in 25.22 seconds.

• The Footlocker Cross Country Championships were held at Charlotte’s McAlpine Greenway on Saturday.

Top-30 finishers received  medals. Hurley YMCA Warriors in the top 30 were:

Noah, Eli and Hope Julian and Emma Calvert will compete at the   AAU  Cross Country Nationals in Lawrence, Kansas, on Saturday Dec. 6.
