Just The Thing to sell remaining inventory, close permanently

A downtown toy store is closing permanently after moving out of its Main Street location.

Glenda Dyson, owner of Just The Thing, said she will not be re-opening the store, which sold educational children’s toys.

Up until two weeks ago, Just The Thing was in the same building as the Literary Bookpost at 110 S. Main Street. The two businesses merged late last year, but a business dispute between Dyson and Bill Greene, co-owner of the bookstore, led to Dyson moving her inventory out of the building.

Thursday, Dyson announced on Facebook her business will shut down.

“I guess I just made the decision that I needed a break and I was not going to re-open,” she told the Post.

Dyson will be selling her remaining inventory Nov. 28-30 at the Heritage Room  at 118 E. Council St. The sale hours are: Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

Dyson said she has reached a settlement with Greene regarding the business split, but that she can’t discuss the details.

“Everywhere I go I hear how sad it is for the community,” She said about her store closing. She added that she doesn’t have any immediate plans for the future.
