Area sports briefs: Sheehan honored

Catawba quarterback Mike Sheehan was named SAC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time after leading the Indians to a 28-17 win against North Greenville on Saturday.
The sophomore had 221 passing yards, two rushing touchdowns and a passing TD.
Newberry linebacker A.J. Booker was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Newberry kick returner Byron Dickerson earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Youth soccer
The FCCA Green Dragons 11-under soccer team finished second in the Carolina Shootout.
The Green Dragons played against some of the top teams in the Carolinas.
Ben Childress scored two goals for the Green Dragons (8-5-2), while Bennett Clark, Ben Sweet and Christopher Portillo had one each.
Other standouts for the Green Dragons were Maddox Goodnight, Reed Brixey and Nick Antosek.
East baseball camp
The East Rowan Mustangs and East Rowan Diamond Sports are partnering for a one-day baseball and softball camp to be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, to benefit Rowan Helping Ministries.
Registration will be from 9:15-10 a.m. The camp will be held from 10-12:30 at Staton Field and Mathis Field in Granite Quarry.
The rain date is Nov. 22.
Admission to the camp is four canned food items per child. Lunch will be provided from 12:30-1 p.m. The camp is open to ages 5-14 and will be conducted by baseball coach Brian Hightower and East Rowan softball coaches.
Campers are encouraged to bring a friend from outside the ERDS league. Suggested donation items are canned fruit, canned meat, canned soups, peanut butter and cereal. Help East Rowan strike out hunger.
College basketball
Nate Jones (Davie) had 21 points and six assists as Davidson County Community College rolled 115-73 against the Limestone jayvees.
Tre Williams (Carson) had six points and three assists for the Storm. The Storm plays an exhibition game against the UNC jayvees on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Dean Smith Center.
• All-Region player Tevin Stark (A.L. Brown) is back at Sandhills Community College this season but has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury.
• Catawba plays at home this weekend. The Indians and Lenor-Rhyne will be taking on UNC Pembroke and Francis Marion in a SAC vs. Sun Belt challenge.
Prep golf
South Rowan’s Davis Richards will sign with N.C. State on Wednesday.
• China Grove’s Carley Cox, a senior at Concord First Assembly, will sign with James Madison on Wednesday.
Local golf
