Kayla Honeycutt had an incredible weekend in Cary. Honeycutt, a junior, won the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A singles championship.
She fell in just one game in her first-round and quarterfinal matches on Friday. In the two-day tournament, Honeycutt came out on the losing end in only eight games.
On Saturday, Honeycutt was a 6-2, 6-2 winner against Shelby’s Nancy Bridges to advance to the title match. Honeycutt faced Carrboro’s Jessica Ille in the championship match. She defeated Ille 6-3, 6-0 to clinch the title.
