Yeoman First Class (Surface Warfare/Aviation Warfare) James T. Sloan was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy on Sept. 16. He is assigned to the Naval Technical Training Center in Meridian, Miss. 

A native of Salisbury and 2004 graduate of North Rowan High School, Chief Sloan is the son of Beverly H. Sloan and the late Terry W. Stockton, Sr.
