Salisbury’s volleyball team swept North Rowan to finish 9-1 in the CCC and win the regular-season conference title for the first time.
Juliana Anderson had 14 kills and 11 digs. Mary Seifert had four aces and 20 assists. Jane Miller had three aces and five kills.
For North Rowan, Aliyah Farmer had 10 kills. Brianna White had eight kills, Chevy Blaire had six kills, and Demeria Robinson had five.
Ashlyn Mills had 26 assists for the Cavaliers.
• East Rowan won 25-15, 25-20, 25-22 against South Rowan on Thursday.
Jordan McCall had 20 assists for the Mustangs, who have won five in a row. Avery Wright had 12 kills and nine digs, Ashton Rogers had 11 kills. Brittany Small had five aces and nine kills. Leah Wyrick had three aces, while Elane Kepley had three digs.
Salisbury swept North Rowan on Thursday.
Breya Philpot had four aces and seven kills for the Hornets. Heavenly Robinson had four aces and three digs. Katie Bullock had nine digs. Dakotah Insley had two aces, three kills and five assists.
Hope Evans and Bry Neely led the Cavaliers.
Cox Mill shot 261 and won the SPC Golf Championship at Corbin Hills on Thursday.
Following the Chargers were Carson (280), West Rowan (282), South Rowan (292), East Rowan (303), Concord (323) and Hickory Ridge (329).
In the individual race, Cox Mill’s Jaime Cassell shot 76 to nip South Rowan’s Alexandria Bare, who shot 77.
Carson’s scorers were Micah Furr (88), Adison Collins (90) and Taylor McCulloh (102).
West Rowan’s scorers were Savannah Lloyd (88), Kelly Boley (95) and Kristen Boley (99).
Scorers for East Rowan were Kathryn Marcum (88), Grace Stokes (105) and Riley Padgett (110).
South Rowan’s other scorers were Kolby Fisher (105) and Lea Morris (110),
Rowan girls making All-SPC were Bare, both Boleys, Marcum, Lloyd, Furr, Collins, Padgett and Stokes.
The regional will be held at Corbin Hills on Oct. 20.
Carson’s boys finished second out of 22 teams in the United Way Invitational in Newton. Zachary Marchinko finished third in 15:53. Garrett Ingold was 10th in 17:09.
Jonah Evans (24th), Dylan Koontz (30th), Hunter Kimball (38th), Grant Doby (46th) and Nick Cox (49th) also ran well for the Cougars.
Kellen Corson placed fifth in 16:27 and led A.L. Brown to a third-place finish.
East Rowan was fifth, while West Rowan was 10th.
Sean Incardona led the Mustangs. He was 26th. West Rowan’s Cameron Butler was 27th. East Rowan’s Nikolas Pillsbury was 29th. Kurtis Reed (67th) led South Rowan.
Colton Correll scored five goals to lead Carson to a 9-0 SPC win against South Rowan on Thursday. Brandon Flores scored three times. Silvestre Lopez scored on a penalty kick.
Raunel Vasquez, Khalid Myers, Ricky Maldonado, Correll and Flores had assists for the Cougars.
Grayson Owens had the shutout in goal.
Next for the Cougars is a Monday contest at Concord.
Friday’s Carson at South Rowan football game will be a Pink Out affair.
Carson fans are urged to wear orange or pink and South Rowan fans are asked to wear red or pink.
Money will be raised for the fight against cancer.
Salisbury (2-3, 1-0 CCC) won 20-7 against East Davidson on Thursday.
Juan Fair had a 35-yard scoring run and led Salisbury’s offense.
Cameron Horne had a 23-yard scoring run. Marcus Corry scored on an 11-yard run.
Jerleel Allison had an interception. Tyquan Jones had a forced fumble and scored on a two-point conversion.
• Tate Houpe threw a 25-yard scoring pass to Michael Hess to tie the game and also passed to Hess for a decisive two-point conversion in a 14-12 win against Northwest Cabarrus on Thursday.
Keith Tillman had an 85-yard kickoff return TD for the Mustangs.
• Brenden Westbrook had an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery as Carson beat South Rowan 35-8.
Bailey Rayfield scored on an 18-yard run, Chandler Herring returned a fumble 52 yards to score, Owen White threw a 38-yard scoring pass to Jailen Williams, Cole Sifford scored on a 35-yard run, and Jay Wilkerson scored on a 22-yard run for Carson (5-1, 3-1
Isaac Bell forced two fumbles for the Cougars. Ty Honeycutt blocked well. Ben Coulter had a key reception.
• West Rowan lost 16-12 to Central Cabarrus.
Martavio Rankin rushed for 108 yards.
Bryant Young threw two TD passes to Kameron Caldwell.
Brandon Wallace, Miles Poteat and Zarrek Barger led the Falcons’ defense.
West Rowan had two TDs called back and had 150 yards in penalties.

Sam Wall scored three touchdowns to lead Erwin to a 30-6 win against Knox in eighth-grade football.
Justin Smith threw two TD passes. Landon Ketchie had a receiving TD, Gabe Hinceman had two receptions and three PATs, Christian Bennett rushed for over a 100 yards. The offensive line provided great blocking.
Defensive standouts included Granger Askew, Drake Walton, Dylan Bryant and Bennett . Wall had an interception.
• West Rowan Middle won 32-18 against China Grove.
Jeffrey Garman scored on runs of 19 and 44 yards and had a two-point conversion,
Robert Caldwell had an 80-yard kickoff return and a 62-yard TD reception from Payne Stolsworth.
Stolsworth, Cameron Graham and Ben Bonds scored two-point conversions.
Anthony Chance rushed for 115 yards.
Defensive standouts included Dawson Sheesley, De’Vae Vaughn and JoJo Brush.
Knox defeated Corriher-Lipe 8-1. Winners for Knox in singles were Rachel Seifert, Skye Mowery, Rainey Dunham, Laura Bullock and Quinnlan Watson. Doubles winners were Seifert-Mowery, Dunham-Bullock and Watson-Maggie Miller. Knox will host West Rowan on Tuesday.
Tiffany Brooks (South Rowan) had eight kills and Aimee Cloninger (Carson)) had six kills and 12 digs in a sweep of Johnson & Wales.
The Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association played its annual two-day Judy Cristman Fall Championship. The winner was Kristi Laton. Second place in the Championship Flight went to Beth Calhoun. Becky Isenhour finished third. Ruth Bowles won the Second Flight, with Eileen Full second and Tammie Drew third.
Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts had a great first quarter and did enough the rest of the way to hold off the Houston Texans 33-28 on Thursday night. The Colts (4-2) raced to a 24-0 lead but allowed Houston to cut it to 33-28 early in the fourth quarter on J.J. Watt’s fumble return for a touchdown.
The Texans (3-3) had two opportunities to take the lead late, but the Colts recovered fumbles by Andre Johnson and Ryan Fitzpatrick in the last five minutes.
Luck finished with 370 yards passing and a three touchdowns and T.Y. Hilton had a career-high 223 yards receiving with a touchdown to give Indy first place in the AFC South.
The Texans were driving with less than five minutes remaining when Johnson, who had been called for pass interference two plays earlier, caught a 13-yard pass and fumbled.
Watt knocked down Luck’s pass on third down on Indy’s next drive to give Houston one last chance. But Bjoern Werner sacked Fitzpatrick and stripped the ball and D’Qwell Jackson recovered.
Fitzpatrick threw for 212 yards and a touchdown and Arian Foster had 109 yards rushing with two scores for Houston.
Indianapolis led by 12 when Luck fumbled and Watt recovered it and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. It was Watt’s third touchdown this season. He also has scored on an interception return and a reception.
Foster had a 34-yard run before Johnson grabbed a 26-yard reception to get Houston down to the 2 in the third quarter. Foster ran wide before cutting back inside and into the end zone untouched on the next play to get the Texans to 27-21.
The Texans were within six points in the third quarter when Luck, who was under heavy pressure, threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Hilton. The 2-point conversion failed, leaving Indianapolis up 33-21.
