An Asheboro man was arrested Monday on two charges after allegedly victimizing a child.
In a news release, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said David Matthew Cleaver, 40, of the 12000 block of North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, was arrested by the Asheboro Police Department on two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child.
He was later released from the Randolph County Detention Center after posting a $10,000 secured bond.
The sheriff’s office found out about the incident on Aug. 11, when notified by the Department of Social Services that an 11 year-old Rowan County girl had been victimized by an adult. A news release stated that Cleaver was a friend of the girl’s family.
Cleaver was scheduled to have a first appearance in court on Tuesday.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation on Aug. 11 receiving the Social Service Department’s report. Investigator Sara Benfield investigated the allegations received through DSS, and was able to determine that a crime had been committed, the news release said.
The warrants were obtained on Oct. 2 for Cleaver’s arrest.
