Salisbury’s volleyball team hosts East Rowan in a “Pink Out” match on Monday.
The Mustangs and Hornets will join thousands of teams from around the country participating in the Side-Out Foundation’s Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally.
Both of Salisbury coach Mallory Hodge’s grandmothers are breast cancer survivors.
The jayvee game is at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity to follow. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students and children. Attendees are encouraged to wear pink.
If you haveno pink apparel, “Dig Pink” T-shirts will be sold at the game for $20.
Teams, coaches and parents organized the event as a community service project.
The Catawba women’s basketball schedule for the 2014-15 season has been announced.
Highlighting the schedule are three exhibition games against Division I teams as well as a regular-season meeting at Appalachian State.
Catawba will tune up for the season with exhibition games against Davidson, Elon and Charlotte. The first contest will be against Davidson on Oct. 30. Catawba will face Elon on Nov. 2 and Charlotte on Nov. 5.
“This will be one of our most challenging schedules since I’ve been coaching at Catawba,” head coach Angie Morton said.
The official opening game for Catawba will be in the Queens Tournament on Friday, Nov. 14, against Mount Olive. The Indians will also play Barton in the tournament.
• The Catawba cross country teams competed Saturday at the Hagan Stone Classic. Matt Jordan-Steele placed 10th in the men’s 8K in 27:56, while Erica Boles (fifth, 20:43) and DeAnna Hedgepeth (seventh, 21:13) had top-1o finishes in the women’s 5K.
The Catawba men placed fourth out of the five NCAA Division II teams at the meet, while the women did not score as a team with just four runners.
• The Catawba men’s soccer team fought to a scoreless tie with Coker on Saturday night at Frock Field. Catawba is 2-7-1 on the season and 0-4-1 in the SAC.
Christian Watts recorded three saves for the Indians.
• The Catawba women’s soccer team ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Coker on Saturday at Frock Field. Catawba (7-3, 3-2 SAC) scored its first goal on a header by Karen Presnell (Salisbury).
Hannah Cruse and Allison Baucom (West Rowan) also scored for the Indians.
• Catawba’s volleyball team lost 25-19, 25-17, 24-26 and 25-21 to Newberry on Saturday at Goodman Gym.
Alex Hopper and McKenzie Garrison had 10 kills each for Catawba (3-11, 1-8 SAC).
• Catawba volleyball lost 25-23, 25-19 and 25-15 to Anderson. Rachel Gallup had seven kills.
• Catawba finished its season-opening swim meet on Saturday at the All-NC Invitational held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Catawba men finished sixth out of 11 teams, while the women were eighth out of 14.
Jevgenij Gamper and Theo Zatterstrom each had a pair of top-10 swims for the men on Saturday. Andrew McCollister (Salisbury) was 10th in the 400 IM (4:13.97).
Anna Barnes had the best women’s finish — 11th place in the 1650 free (18:37.71).

The Salisbury Athletic Booster Club meeting scheduled for Monday has been postponed. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. in Room 105.
Carson’s boys finished third out of 32 teams in the 3A race at Saturday’s Wendy’s Invititional at Charlotte’s McAlpine Greenway.
Westminister, Ga., won. North Lincoln was second.
Carson runners included Zachary Marchinko (4th,15:59), Garrett Ingold (14th, 16:42), Jonah Evans (38th, 17:19), Nick Cox (45th, 17:23), Grant Doby (51st. 17:29), Dylan Koontz (54th, 17:31) and Hunter Kimball (56th, 17:38).
East Rowan was 11th. East Rowan’s Conor Honeycutt was 10th in 16:30.
Cade Harrill led West Rowan runners. He was 50th in 17:28.
West Rowan was 17th, while South Rowan was 32nd.

Carson’s girls beat East Rowan 6-3 in SPC action.
Laura Isenhour won on a tiebreaker at No. 1 against Emma Ritchie. Sara Lentz and Gabi Jolly also won in singles for the Cougars, while Lana Jackson, Caroline Plyler and Angel Scialdone won for the Mustangs.
Carson swept doubles. Isenhour-Lentz, Erika Meadows-Addie Gantt and Jolly-Sierra Fesperman were the winning teams.
• The SPC tournament starts Monday in Concord.
• The Central Carolina Conference will hold its tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Lexington’s Bingham Tennis Center.
Play will begin at 4 p.m. with the top three players in singles and doubles qualifying for the Midwest Regional.

Erwin rallied to beat Mooresville 24-22.
The Eagles scored 16 points in the last five minutes. They scored, recovered an onside kick and scored again. The Eagles’ defense sealed the win with a forced fumble.
