The Landis Fire Department once again offered their annual race and lunch to celebrate those who have battled breast cancer on Saturday morning.
The race grew in size even with several large races in the same area.
Race director Andrew Morgan said, “We were afraid that we were going to run out of race numbers. That is a great problem to have. Thanks to everyone who joined us and all the fire department, police, town staff and other volunteers who made this happen. We appreciate all of our sponsors too.”
Sponsors for this year’s event were Landis Public Power, Performance Chem-Dry, Sherrill and Smith, CPAs, Rick Locklear, S.A. Sloop Heating and Air Conditioning, Insurance Solutions of Kannapolis, B&G Lawn Care, Frank Corriher Beef and Sausage, Southeastern Consulting Engineers, and Pinnacle Corrugated.
All participants and volunteers received a chicken and pasta lunch. Proceeds from the event will go to help breast cancer survivors in need of financial assistance.
Caleb O’Neil paced the field at the Breast Cancer 5K with a time of 18 minutes and 2 seconds. O’Neil was followed by Josh Readling in 18:37 and Bobby Aswell in 19:28.
The top woman was Debbie Dickson, who clocked a winning time of 22 minutes and 15 seconds. She was followed by Rebekah Julian in 22:39 and Nicole Aswell in 24:04.
