Salisbury’s girls tennis team wrapped up the regular season on Wednesday with a 9-0 win against North Rowan at Cty Park.
Singles winners for the Hornets (13-2, 8-0) were Kayla Honeycutt, Grace Steinman, Kathryn Rusher, Maria Capito, Emily Capito and
Julia Honeycutt.
Maria Capito-Julia Honeycutt, Steinman-Rusher and Bethanie Stauffer-Ruth Clement won in doubles.
The CCC Tournament starts Monday in Lexington for Salisbury and North Rowan.
• East Rowan won 9-0 against South Rowan in SPC tennis on Wednesday.
Singles winners for the Mustangs were Emma Ritchie, Lana Jackson, Kayce Wilson, Caroline Plyler and Angel Scialdone and Alana Miller.
Doubles winners were Ritchie-Wilson, Jackson-Plyler and Scialdone-Miller.
Jordan McCall had 20 assists in East Rowan’s 3-1 win against West Davidson on Wednedsay.
East Rowan (12-8) got nine kills and five digs from Avery Wright, and six kills and five digs from Ashton Rogers.
• Due to Salisbury’s varsity football game being played Thursday night, Salisbury’s home volleyball match with Thomasville has been moved up. The varsity will play at 4:30, with the jayvees to follow.
Spectators for volleyball will need to use the entrance near the baseball stadium. Taylor Street will be closed. Those going to the volleyball game will need to use Caldwell Street to access parking as they normally would for a football game.
• West Rowan was swept by Northwest Cabarrus on Wednesday.
• Carson (9-4 SPC) won 3-1 against Concord on Tuesday and is in third place.
Salisbury’s girls golf team shot 124 and won at the Country Club of Salisbury against Gray Stone (138), Carson (146) and South Rowan (156).
Grace Yatawara shot 37 to pace the Hornets. Isabella Rusher shot 39, Caroline Parrott shot 48, and Shelby Holden shot 49.
Carson scorers were Micah Furr (41), Adison Collins (48) and Taylor McCulloh (57).
South Rowan scorers were Alexandria Bare (40), Lea Morris (57) and Kolby Fisher (59),
Gray Stone scorers were Micah Mason (41), Colby McMilla (45) and Elizabeth Detar (52).
Luke Jester and Freddy Sanchez scored goals in South Rowans’s 2-0 SPC win against East Rowan on Tuesday.
Cameron Corriher had the shutout in goal.
It was the first SPC win for the Raiders.
The Knox eighth-graders won 36-6 against Corriher-Lipe.
Angelo Parker, Kevion Chunn, Dehavion Robinson, Will Setzer and O. B. Mashore combined for nine tackles for loss. Hassen Biggus had two pick-sixes.
The Knox offense was paced by quarterback Bo Rusher, who threw two touchdowns to Mashore of 61 and 23 yards. Rusher also ran for a 2-point conversion.
Running backs Tyrone Johnson and Rahiem Walker had big days running behind Chunn, Setzer, Parker, Caleb Williams, and Eric Argrett.
Knox plays the Erwin Eagles next Wednesday.
Jalen Houston touched the ball four times Tuesday and scored four times for the West Rowan Middle Bulldogs in a 52-0 win against Southeast.
Houston scored on runs of 24, 30 and 51 yards and returned a punt 50 yards.
Tykese Warren scored both times he carried the ball on runs of 25 and 70 yards.
Jay Joseph added a 32-yard run, while Jaxon Wheeler added five 2-point conversions.
The West Rowan offense scored seven touchdowns while running only nine offensive plays.
The Bulldogs’ offensive line was led by Carter Jenkins, Zach Miller, Jonny Hassard, Bryson Coleman, J.T. Bost, Edwin Berrios and Drake Martin.
The defense was sparked by Gerquavius Weeks, Calub Pope, Dylan Sigmon, and Lathan Hager, while Cullen Davis and Nicholi Warren both had an interception.
West Rowan (4-0) travels to China Grove on Tuesday.
Erwin won 8-1 against Knox on Wednesday.
Anna Grace Woolly won in singles for Knox.
Knox will travel to Southeast on Thursday.
The FCCA U11 soccer team, the Green Dragons won a regional match 5-1 in its last outing.
Scoring for the Dragons (4-2-1) were Colin Donaldson and Maddox Goodnight with two goals each and Bennett Clark with a goal.
Defensive standouts Ben Childress, Oscar Enciso and Ben Sweet.
The entry deadline for the Rotary Fall Classic Tennis Tournament is Oct. 6.
The tournament is set for Friday, Oct. 10 (starting at 4 p.m.), through Sunday, Oct. 12.
Divisions include Junior and Adult singles and doubles competition and mixed doubles.

The Civitan Club of Salisbury will host its 39th Annual Civitan Golf Classic on Friday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m. at the Country Club of Salisbury.

Livingstone’s Daryl Williams was named CIAA Coach of the Week, LC’s Drew Powell was named CIAA Quarterback of the Week for throwing four TD passes against Bowie State, and Leonardo Manzo was named the league’s special teams player of the week for his game-winning field goal.

Catawba lost 3-0 to Limestone on Wednesday in Gaffney, S.C.
Catawba fell to 6-3, while the Saints improved to 4-1-2.
Limestone led 3-0 at halftime. The Indians out-shot he home team 14-6, but Limestone keeper Alexis Dunbar made 10 saves.
• The Catawba men’s soccer team lost 2-0 at Pfeiffer on Wednesday. Pfeiffer (5-3) scored two goals in the final eight minutes. Catawba fell to 2-7.
Catawba is home against Coker on Saturday night.
Catawba Valley Community College swept Walter State on Tuesday.
Aimee Cloninger (Carson) had 13 kills and 15 digs for the Redhawks.
Tiffany Brooks (South Rowan) had four kills and 1.5 blocks.
As a way to demonstrate service, one of the four words on the Catawba seal, members of the school’s men’s basketball team prepared and served a meal to approximately 100 homeless people at Rowan Helping Ministries on Sunday, Sept. 14.
“We are committed to becoming active members in the community,” coach Rob Perron said. “This was our first of several community outreach projects.”
