Prep football: West Rowan opens SPC with win
CONCORD — The West Rowan Falcons opened South Piedmont Conference play Friday with a victory at Northwest Cabarrus. The Falcons topped the Trojans 13-0 thanks to a pair of rushing touchdowns by Harrison Baucom.
It was a win, although West Rowan head coach Scott Young was not all the way satisfied with how his team played on the offensive side of the ball.
“It was close, but at least our defense showed up,” Young said. “Our offense could be best described as squandered opportunities.”
Young pointed to penalties inside the Trojans’ 10-yard line and interceptions in the red zone.
“Again, credit their defense, but some things we did were self-inflicted,” Young said.
The Falcons (3-1, 1-0 SPC) are on the road again next week. West Rowan travels to South Rowan.
