Rowan Public Library programs for students

Rowan Public Library has events for students throughout the month, including:
Sept. 18: Family Storytelling Concert
Timmy Abell’s concerts are an interplay of music and storytelling and have been described as “spellbinding.” His storytelling includes a rich variety of adventure stories, tall tales, fairy tales and mountain Jack Tales often punctuated with music. This event for the whole family is from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Rowan Public Library Headquarters, 201 W. Fisher St. in Salisbury. Call 704-216-7728 for more details.
Sept. 19: Stories by the Millstream
The library’s annual Stories at the Millstream will feature storyteller Timmy Abell among other local talents Sept. 19 at Sloan Park in Mount Ulla. The event is geared toward elementary aged children and is coordinated by Dara Cain.
Sept. 22: 2014 Teen Book Cover Contest Begins
Middle and high school students are invited to create and submit their original book cover design for a published book. Contest ends Oct. 11. Winners will be announced during Teen Read Week (Oct. 12-18). Pick up an entry form at any Rowan County library location or download online at www.rowanpubliclibrary.org.
Sept. 23: Teen Program
For middle and high school teens. This month’s theme is “It’s Fall Y’all!” Celebrate the autumnal equinox with a variety of leaf centered crafts. Snacks and drinks will be provided. This event is held from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the South Rowan Regional Library, 920 Kimball Road in China Grove.
Sept. 25: Teen Advisory Board Meeting
Middle and high school teens that join this board provide input on the library’s teen programming and book selection and discuss current events and issues of interest to teens in Rowan County. Meetings are held once a month from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at South Rowan Regional Library. Contact your local library to find out how you can get involved.
