Matthew F. Jones, a homeschooled student from Salisbury, is one of about 16,000 semifinalists for a National Merit Scholarship, officials with the National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced.
The finalists continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.
Madeline Labovitz and Emily Boggs of Salisbury received merit scholarships to attend Wofford College for the 2014-15 academic year.
Labovitz is a graduate of Salisbury High School, and Boggs is a graduate of North Hills Christian School.
