CHINA GROVE — The Price of Freedom Museum is an American war memorial whose goal is to teach all generations the true price of freedom. It is dedicated to the men and women of the United States armed services who paid the ultimate price with their lives and service to this country.
On Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., the museum hosts its annual Remembrance of 9/11 event. This year’s theme is “Memories of Yesteryears.”
Local emergency and law enforcement vehicles will be on display, as well as restored farm equipment and vehicles. There will be live gospel and bluegrass music from local groups and visitors can view the progress being made on the restoration of the Patterson School.
BBQ will be sold by We Care Ministry of Oak Grove Baptist Church in China Grove.
At 10 a.m. there will be a special memorial service for fire, rescue and law enforcement.
Vehicles on display at the event include approximately 20 fire trucks and equipment including:
A restored 1914 Salisbury truck and a restored 1953 brush truck courtesy of Paul Brown, a Rowan rescue airboat, a Rockwell rural fire ATV, a Lake Norman Fire Department pink fire engine, a Cornelius Fire Department antique tiller ladder fire truck, a med center air EMS unit, a Rowan EMS 1 with displays, an antique pullaround reel.
Representatives from the fire marshal’s office will be on site.
The NC highway patrol will have several cars on display, as will the Salisbury Police Department. There will be antique cars and farm equipment, and law enforcement vehicles from city and county agencies.
Many area county fire departments have donated equipment currently on display in the museum.
