Spaghetti supper will help build Carson stand

Jonathon Shuping graduated from Carson High School in the spring, but he is sticking with his commitment to build a band-director tower in the school’s football stadium.
He and his family will be serving a spaghetti supper at Stag & Doe restaurant Tuesday evening to help make it happen.
Jonathon came up with the tower idea as a member of Carson’s marching band. For his Eagle Scout project, he wanted to construct a brick director’s tower for Carson’s band director, Jeff Street.
Jonathon wound up doing something else for his Eagle project, and he has started classes at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. But he never gave up the band stand project, mom Patty Shuping said. Nine pallets of block are on site, and Jonathon is going to see the project through.
“We don’t not finish what we start,” she said.
So the Shupings and their friends will serve spaghetti 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Stag & Doe, located at 1770 U.S. 29, China Grove. Tickets are $10.
Gary Morton, a co-owner of the restaurant, will do the cooking. Patty said that was his way of helping with the project.
“Having help from Morton and others in the community has been encouraging,” Patty said. “Getting everybody to work together is better than anything we could ask for.”
Checks should be made payable to BSA Troop 591.
