Carson stays unbeaten

Carson’s boys soccer team won 3-1 against Cox Mill in its SPC opener on Thursday.
Cox Mill scored first, but Carson (4-0, 1-0) leveled the match when Colton Correll scored off a throughball off the foot of Ricky Maldonado.
Correll scored on a cross by Brandon Flores for a 2-1 lead, and Danny Nava connected on a long shot from the left side to close the scoring.
Carson hosts West Rowan on Tuesday.
• Goals by Will Brown and Bays Bost lifted East Rowan to a 2-1 SPC win against South Rowan on Thursday.
Bost’s PK in overtime proved decisive.
• Salisbury leveled its record at 2-2 with a 5-2 victory over Ledford on Thursday at Ludwig Stadium.
The Hornets got a second straight hat trick from funior Landon Goodman.
Ahmedin Salcinovic and Felix Carrillo completed the scoring for Salisbury. Carrillo scored his first varsity goal.
Michael Brown, Christian Uribe, Hector Salinas, Goodman and Salcinovic had assists.
Salisbury led 2-0 at halftime and by 5-0 in the second half on a humid, hot night.
Ledford was banged up from Wednesday’s game with East Davidson and played without offensive star Edgar Salinas.
All players that were healthy saw game action for Salisbury.
Salisbury is off until it hosts South Rowan next Wednesday.
Salisbury will have the unveiling of the 2013 state championship banner in the stadium Friday during halftime of the East-Salisbury football game.
Salisbury’s volleyball team was swept by West Stanly on Thursday.
Juliana Anderson led the Hornets with 14 kills, five blocks and five digs. De’Leon Duren had four kills and four blocks. Mary Seifert had 21 assists and five aces.
Abby Lee had six aces and five kills. Lora Withers had three aces, three kills and 10 assists.
• Carson won 25-14, 25-18 and 25-10 against West Rowan in SPC action.
• North Rowan lost to Southeast Guilford 25-18, 25-17, 14-25 and 25-14.
Makala Lytton had nine kills for the Cavaliers. Aliyah Farmer had six kills, and Chevy Blaire had five.
Brianna White had six blocks.
• In the SPC, East Rowan lost to Hickory Ridge 3-1.
* South Rowan lost to first-place Cox Mill 21-25, 25-14, 25-15 and 25-18 in SPC action.
North Rowan won 8-1 against Central Davidson on Thursday.
Samantha Pritchard, Alexis Rice, Victoria Scheve, Indya Wiggins and Brandy Fox won in singles for the Cavaliers.
Leasure-Pritchard, Rice-Wiggins and Scheve-Fox won in doubles.
• South Rowan lost 8-1 to Mount Pleasant on Thursday.
Olivia Sides won for the Raiders at No. 5 singles.

Salisbury’s jayvees won 8-6 on Thursday.
East Rowan scored in the second quarter.
Salisbury scored on an option run with QB Marcus Corry running for 25 yards before pitching the ball to Nick Austin, who got the TD. Corry scored a decisive 2-point conversion on the option.
Juan Fair ran hard for the Hornets, and the offensive line had a good night.
Byron Goodlett and Tywen Rivers led the Salisbury defense.
Tate Houpe scored the touchdown for East on a short run. Chase Fritz played well for the Mustangs.
• Carson’s jayvees won 19-8 over North Rowan in Spencer.
Owen White threw three TD passes for the Cougars.
Matt Mills had a 13-yard scoring reception. Bailey Rayfield had a 28-yard scoring catch.
Brenden Westbrook gave Carson a 19-0 lead with a 54-yard reception.
Isaac Bell and Thomas Borkowski had fumble recoveries for the Cougars. Trey Sloop had three pass breakups. Blake Daniels led the Cougars in tackles.
Ken Safrit had his first career hole-in-one at McCanless on Tuesday while playing in the Rowan County Church Golf League.
He aced the 175-yard No. 12 hole from the white tees. Witnesses were Tom Talbert, Worth Roberts, Mike Hopkins and Sammy Miller.
• Roger Snider made a hole-in-one Wednesday on No. 12 at McCanless from the white tees. The hole was playing 178 yards. Snider used a 7-wood for his first career ace. Chris Livengood witnessed the feat.
• After two rounds of the eGolf Tour’s River Hills Championship at Lake Wylie, S.C., Frank Adams III has shot 73-71 — 144 and Will Collins has shot 74-71 — 145. The cutline was 145.
