Carson tennis tops Mustangs

Carson won 6-3 against East Rowan on Tuesday for its first win over the Mustangs in five years.
Winning in singles for Carson were Sara Lentz, Erika Meadows, Gabi Jolly and Siera Fesperman.
Winning for the Mustangs were Emma Ritchie and Kayce Wilson.
Laura Isenhour-Lentz and Jolli-Fesperman won in doubles for the Cougars.
Ritchie-Wilson won for the Mustangs.
East Rowan swept Concord in SPC volleyball on Tuesday.
Central Cabarrus won 2-0 against Hickory Ridge in SPC soccer on Tuesday.
Seventy-seven GARS members played the second round of the annual Gars Tournament at Warrior.
Low ‘A’ Flight winner was Tom Talbert with a net of 62.25. Low ‘B’ Flight winner was Jack Swicegood with a net of 60.66. Low ‘C’ Flight winner was Bobby Wagoner with a net of 59.14. Low ‘D’ Flight winner with a net of 61.49 was Harry Agner.
• The Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association played a two-man Captain’s Choice event on Tuesday.
The team of Becky Isenhour-Karla Swanson won first place and was followed by the team of Mary Seaford-Joy Maughmer. Toni Iossi-Sharon Deal took third place.
Eddy Alvarez hit a two-run homer for the Kannapolis Intimidators the lead, and they went on a to a 5-4 victory against the Rome Braves on Tuesday.
Chevy Clarke hit a solo homer.Carl Thomore had a tiebreaking hit in the eighth.
Corey Seager (NW Cabarrus) hasn’t played in the California League over in a month, but he did enough to be named league MVP.
Seager, 20, hit .352 with 18 homers and 34 doubles in 80 games for Rancho Cucamonga.
He led the California League in doubles, total bases (207), extra-base hits (54) and slugging percentage and was second in hits (115) and batting average.
The Dodgers drafted Seager in the first round of the 2012 draft.
They announced Tuesday that Seager will play in the Arizona Fall League.
Salisbury Academy’s jayvee girls volleyball team lost to Forsyth County Day.
• Salisbury Academy’s varsity girls volleyball team won 2-0 against Forsyth County Day.
• Salisbury Academy’s coed soccer team shut out Forsyth County Day 5-0.
Hank Robins, Dominic Capito, Mitch Jeter, Charie Barr and Jeremiah Whitaker scored goals.
Jeter had two assists. Ellen Simons had an assist.
Defensive standouts were Simons, Joshua Portillo, Marshall Overcash and Sam Combs. Goalkeepers were Katie Leckonby and Nicholas Peltz.
The Saleeby-Fisher YMCA, East Rowan Branch, is registering for Mighty Kickers Soccer (girls and boys, ages 3-4), fall soccer (boys and girls, ages 5-14) and fall T-ball (ages 4-6).
Registration ends Saturday, Sept. 6.
