Private schools starting classes, as well

More than 310 students began classes Wednesday, at North Hills Christian School.
The school, located at 2970 W. Innes St., is a co-educational, non-denominational, college-preparatory day school for students in junior kindergarten through high school.
North Hills was established in 1967 and is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of Christian Schools International.
The school offers a wide variety of athletic programs, clubs and activities, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, volleyball, softball, baseball for high school, National Honor Society, history club, Junior Civitan and Junior Classical League.
North Hills also provides a comprehensive offering of Advanced Placement and honors classes for middle and high school students.
After-school and before-school care is available.

CONCORD – Classes at Cannon School, 5801 Poplar Tent Road, begin Monday, Aug. 18.
The school will host a new-student orientation from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.
More than 970 students from seven counties attend the junior kindergarten through grade 12 independent college preparatory school.
Cannon emphasizes six core values: courage, teamwork, respect, integrity, passion and kindness.
Cannon is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and has received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS).
Cannon athletics offers more than 40 teams such as baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field and volleyball.

Rockwell Christian School, located at 401 Depot St. in Rockwell, will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 25. Classes are in session Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day.
The school will host a parent orientation and open house for current school families on Friday, Aug. 22. The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Bethel Baptist Church.
Although Rockwell Christian is a ministry of Bethel Baptist Church, enrollment is open to any student.

Sacred Heart Catholic School begins classes on Wednesday, Aug. 20, starting with a full school day at 8 a.m. and dismissing at 3 p.m. Sacred Heart will host parent orientations on Aug. 18 from 5:30 p.m.-7:45 p.m. and a classroom visitation on Aug. 19 from 11 a.m.-noon.
The school invites all children and is composed of many different nationalities and Christian affiliations. The school campus is located at 385 Lumen Christi Lane in Salisbury, just off Jake Alexander Boulevard and across from the Crescent Golf community.
Currently, approximately 240 students are enrolled in their pre-kindergarten for 3- and 4-year-olds through eighth grade classes. The school continues to offer small teacher-to-student ratios in math and language arts.
