Rowan County commissioners will start interviewing top candidates for the job of county manager Thursday morning.
After meeting in closed session Monday morning to discuss personnel, the Board of Commissioners voted in open session to schedule interviews with four applicants for the job.
Later in the day, Chairman Jim Sides called a special meeting of the board at 8 a.m. Thursday to conduct interviews.
Gary Page, who has been county manager since coming from Wilkes County in 2008, is set to retire at the end of this month. Commissioners took applications through July 31 with plans for the county’s human resources department to narrow the field.
Sides said the county heard from 13 or 14 applicants. The board selected four to be interviewed over the next week or two, depending on how effectively interviews can be scheduled, he said.
