Fisher commits to UNC-A Bulldogs

East Rowan rising senior Kelli Fisher has committed to UNC Asheville’s basketball program.
the 6-foot-3 Fisher has made steady progress for coach Danielle Porter’s Mustangs.
She averaged 10.2 points per game as a freshman, 10.7 as a sophomore and 15.3 as a senior when she was the Mustangs’ leading scorer and made All-SPC and All-Rowan County.
Fisher had six 20-point games last season, including a career-best 26 in a win against Northwest Cabarrus, and helped East win the SPC regular-season and tournament championships.
Fisher will enter her senior season with 908 career points. She’s 14th all-time in East scoring.
Rockwell’s Gavin Wike made his first hole-in-one on the 137-yard No. 13 hole at The Valley of Eastport Golf Links in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Wike used a pitching wedge.
The shot was witnessed by his father, Reggie Wike, Phillip Hathcock and Chase Hathcock.
• Registration ends on Aug. 17 for the Crowder-Dorsett Memorial 4-Ball Labor Day Golf Tournament at the Country Club of Salisbury.
Stroke-play qualifying takes place from Aug. 22-24.
Flighted match play starts on Aug. 30.
There are regular, senior (55-older), super senior (65-older) and women’s divisions.
• The IZOD American Junior Golf Association Championship will be held at the Club at Irish Creek from Aug. 11-14.
South Rowan’s Davis Richards and Concord’s Walker Cress are part of a strong 96-player field that includes players from 20 states and six countries.

Wilmer Difo drove in four runs to lead Hagerstown to a 9-4 win against the Kannapolis Intimidators on Sunday.
Kannapolis lost its fifth straight game.
In Southeast Regional games on Saturday in Asheboro, host Randolph County eliminated N.C. champion Shelby 5-3.
Alabama eliminated Virginia with an 11-0 romp, and Florida beat South Carolina 9-3.
Four teams are left, Florida is still unbeaten in the double-elimination tournament, while Alabama, South Carolina and Randolph have one loss each.
Alabama plays South Carolina today at 4:30, while Randolph takes on Florida at 7:30.

Donte Minter’s basketball camp is scheduled for Aug. 11-14 at Hall Gym. Camp is for boys and girls, grades 2-11, and is from 9 until 1 daily. Camp price is $65.
The camp provides food, daily prizes and camp T-shirts.
