UPDATE: Additional locations are taking part in National Night Out, according to a press release from the city of Salisbury.
In addition to the events listed below are the following:
• Clancy Hills Apartments, Clancy Street, 4-7 p.m.
• The Father’s House of Glory, 2218 Statesville Blvd., 6-7:30 p.m.
• Salisbury Child Care and Fine Arts, 1319 Standish Street, 4-5:30 p.m.
• Lincoln Park Pool, 110 Old Concord Road, 7-8:30 p.m.
• Miller Recreation Center/Salvation Army, 1402 W. Bank St., 6-8 p.m.
• Civic Park Apartments, Hall Street, 6-8 p.m.
“We are especially excited about this year’s National Night Out event, as it is the first one since our department has implemented renewed initiatives aimed at strengthening trust and relationships with our citizens,” said Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collins. “Some of those efforts, in fact, are already being reflected by the number of sites participating in Tuesday’s National Night Out program.”
“Though I am very excited by the increased number of neighborhoods taking part in the National Night Out program this year, I would love for even more to do so in the future. Any neighborhood which may be interested in doing so, may speak with either Officer Chunn or Officer Ijames by calling the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333.”
Don’t be alarmed at the police presence in your neighborhood Tuesday. In fact, police officers might just show up on your block for a series of community-based events around the county.
The annual National Night Out events will kick off Tuesday, many of which will be held in the late evening. National Night Out events were first held 30 years ago in communities all over the country.
In some cases, police departments plan the events while many communities have blocked off streets so residents can enjoy food, music and games.
Some police agencies use the event as a way to hear residents’ concerns about their community while others use it as tool to get to know the people living there.
There are countless events being hosted in communities throughout the county. Here are some that were submitted:
• East Spencer will host its first National Night Out event Tuesday from 4 p.m.- 8 p.m. Activities will take place in the field on East Henderson Street, surrounded by Henderson, Grant and Torbush streets. Residents are invited to an afternoon of entertainment. There will be a DJ, free hot dogs, soft drinks, popcorn and a bounce house.
Interim Police Chief Baxter Michael said the public safety team will spend the evening getting to know residents and hear ideas the community may have about the town. “This will be an opportunity to make community connections, meet your neighbors, share crime prevention information, have fun and start a new tradition,” Michael said.
• Moore’s Chapel Church, 500 Partee St., 5 p.m.-8 p.m.
The organizers will have hot dogs and cake. They’ll also give away school supplies. There will be a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog as well as Salisbury Police leadership team and patrol officers.
• Brooklyn South Square, corner of East Bank and South Shaver streets, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
Organizers will have chilled watermelon, cake and drinks. They’ll also have games, touch a police car and a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog as well as Salisbury Police leadership team and patrol officers.
• Pine Hills Apartments, 410 West 15th Street, Apartment 28, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
Organizers will have cake and drinks, activities and a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog as well as Salisbury Police leadership team and patrol officers.
• Country Club, Club House Drive, in the grassy area near the clubhouse, 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m.

• Laurel Pointe, 100 Laurel Pointe Circle, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
There will be hot dogs, cake and drinks, music, face painting and a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog as well as Salisbury Police leadership team and patrol officers.
• Rolling Hills Town Homes, Ashbrook Road, 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
There will be hot dogs, chips, drinks and cake. There will also be opportunities to swim and other activities. There will also be a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog as well as Salisbury Police leadership team and patrol officers.
• Fulton Heights Neighborhood, 7 p.m.-9 p.m.
Neighbors will host porch parties and neighborhood leaders will ride through the neighborhood to hand out prizes. Patrol officers will also ride through the neighborhood.
• City Park Neighborhood, Lake Drive, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m.
Organizers will have cake and drinks and other activities.
• Landis will host its National Night Out event Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the soccer field across from the south Rowan branch of the YMCA. More details will be released at a later date.
