A fine game for a summer afternoon

We hope all of our players who attended the Winston-Salem tournament had a wonderful and productive experience.
We had a fine game for a summer afternoon at our Evergreen game on Friday, July 25 at the Senior Center. There were very few game going hands, so much of our day was spent defending or playing part score contracts. Most players want a strong “meaty” hand but Friday’s game was a good lesson and good practice in defensive play. Board 17 is our highlighted hand. How would you bid and play this hand?
Ron and Shirley Jeffers had the best N/S score bidding and making 1N S +1, while the best E/W score was 1N E+1 made by Judy Hurder and Gloria Bryant. Note: E/W had the points to make 3NT but didn’t, while N/S did not have many points but their opponents did not challenge the bid. No one vulnerable with N the dealer.
