Wofford College has named additional students who studied abroad during the spring 2014 semester to its dean’s list, including Stacey Maguire Mangan of China Grove.
To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled for at least 12 semester hours of graded courses and attain a semester grade point average of 3.6 or higher.
Sarah Catherine Shirley of Salisbury has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at Radford University.
Shirley, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Shirley, is a senior design major.
To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have taken 15 or more credit hours and have a grade point average of 3.4 or above with no grade below a C.
Local Government Federal Credit Union awarded Chandee Payne and Hannah Dixon with scholarship awards.
Payne will use her scholarship to study at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Dixon plans to study at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Payne and Dixon are two of 120 deserving high school seniors and post-secondary students that will have extra money to apply toward their education at the university, community or technical college of their choice.
The scholarship recognizes a student’s high achievement in extracurricular activities, as well as academic excellence by their having maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or higher; financial need is also a consideration.
Nine graduating seniors from the Rowan-Salisbury School System received an educational grant awarded by the local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. The Delta Xi Omega chapter awarded scholarships to the following students.
Salisbury High School — Jalyn Neely, daughter of Cassondra Heilig, who will attend North Carolina A&T State University, and Jeryon Davis, son of Odessa Davis, who will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Carson High School — Joel Boyd-Smith, son of Sharon and George Bates, who will attend Lenoir-Rhyne College.
North Rowan High School — Samaya Byrd, daughter of Yolanda Byrd, who will attend Winston-Salem State University; Alexis Mitchell, daughter of Sandra and Andrew Mitchell, who will attend Livingstone College, and Cierra Sifford, daughter of Shirley Harshaw and Christopher Sifford, who will attend University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Rowan County Early College — Kia McGowan, daugher of Cynthia Neely, who will attend North Carolina A&T State University, and Edward McGorda Jr., son of Savannah and Edward McGorda, who will attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
West Rowan High School — Jasmine Jordan, daughter of Teresa Adams, who will attend North Carolina A&T State University.
Oklahoma City University announced that Nicolette Blake of Mooresville has been named to the spring 2014 dean’s honor roll.
Dean’s honor roll status is awarded to students who successfully complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Raven Corbett, daughter of Rocky and Mary Beth Corbett, received the NIBA: 2014 Presidential Scholarship this year. She received the award based on her volunteer activities.
