Jimmie Porter of China Grove gets a kick, so to speak, out of this photograph from the Aug. 23, 1980, edition of the Salisbury Post. It shows him leading a bunny hop during a street dance in China Grove. Porter is the tall guy at far right, followed by his sister Becky Porter and, behind her, Bub Withers. Post photographer Wayne Hinshaw captured the shot on Swink Street. It represented a return of the China Grove street dance after a long absence. Since then, the street dance has been synonymous with China Grove’s Farmers Day, which will be held this year July 19.
