FAITH — Friday at the annual Faith Fourth of July Festival wraps up with fireworks show at 10:30 p.m. at Faith Elementary School ballpark. The day will kick off at 10 a.m. with a parade down Main Street. Armbands for rides $20 from 1-5 p.m. Faith Idol finals at 7 p.m. Races, games, watermelon eating contest, egg toss at the ballpark starting at 7 p.m.
KANNAPOLIS — The Intimidators host the annual All-American Celebration and fireworks extravaganza Friday. Beginning at 6 p.m., carnival-like entertainment leads up to fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. The team plays at CMC-NorthEast Stadium, located off I-85 at exit 63. RALEIGH — The State Capitol celebration will include music, historical and military displays, carriage rides and face painting from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On the steps of the Capitol at noon, 30 new citizens will be naturalized followed by a reading of the Declaration of Independence. “The ’Works” begins downtown at noon, with 20 bands on three stages, an art sale, food vendors, a beer garden and children’s activities. Contests for hot-dog chowing, watermelon-seed spitting and ice-cream eating. The gates at Red Hat Ampitheater open at 5 p.m. If you’re attending just for the fireworks, officials recommend arriving by 8 p.m. for the 9:30 p.m. show. BLOWING ROCK — A pyrotechnic display of more than 200 large-caliber mortar shells will light up the Blue Ridge Mountains surrounding Tweetsie Railroad starting at 9:30 p.m. Friday. The show can easily be viewed from Tweetsie’s parking area. Parking $5, Golden Rail Season Pass holders free. Want up close and personal view?
