In reference to Gerry Wood’s letter (June 30):
Mr. Wood’s outrage is “spot on.”
To a professional business executive, throwing around $200,000 to $300,000 of public funds (read: our taxes) as absolution/hush money to escape a botched personnel decision surrounding a reactive, contrived “mutual” termination is heresy.
More to an escalated point, however, is the extent to which we of the electorate have been “dumbed-down” with numbers. When our irresponsible federal government is casual with debts (and even worse, deficits) of trillions and “rounding errors” in billions and “nominal expenses” in millions, our city’s feckless leadership approving costs for a poorly executed personnel decision of $200,000-$300,000 pales.
This is a “top down” governmental problem which exists due to our voter acquiescence.
Resolved: Until we responsible individuals “hit the electorate brakes,” it is destined to get worse.

Salisbury
I read the recent Salisbury Post articles in regard to the Salisbury city manager fiasco with great interest.
It seems the problem resulted from too much control with little or no supervision. It would be wise for other towns in Rowan County to pay close attention to this situation and take heed! You should know and care what is happening in your town. Never let town officials, and for that matter, elected officials, go unsupervised or unchallenged if actions are in question. Your tax dollars are part of the salaries of these folks. In a nutshell, they are hired and elected to: preserve the history and hard work of the citizens of the town; protect the town’s good name and best interest at all times; and to always work toward the enhancement of the town’s ability to prosper and to survive well into the future.
When it comes time to vote, remember to look back and check if these hired and elected officials have followed these simple guidelines, or have they shirked their responsibilities or followed their own agenda? Take heed!
