East Rowan’s 10U all-stars won the Area 3 championship Monday night with a 14-4 victory over Surry South in Westfield.
East beat Surry South 8-2 Saturday and then beat Surry North 10-2 Sunday to get to the championship.
East moves on to the WNC Cal Ripken State Tournament in Hildebrand starting on July 9.
Team members are Jacob Causey, Austin Fulk, Jake Hunter, Ashton Johnson, Landon Jones, Garrison Kepley, Kane Kepley, Finch McMillan, Gunnar Michael, Tristan Miller, Bryson Shive, and Jayden Weathers. Justin Kepley is head coach and his assistants are Wes Fulk and Chuck Kepley.
• East Rowan’s 11U all-stars beat Union County 13-8 in the first game of the Area 3 championship but then fell to UC 14-0 in the second game Monday night in Rockwell. East beat China Grove 26-3 Friday night, MARA 9-3 Saturday, lost to UC 8-7 in 10 innings Sunday afternoon, then beat MARA 13-8 Sunday night to reach the championship.

KS Lane has won 30 straight, 12 in the fall, 17 in the spring and the championship game.

The Mooresville Moors beat the Mooresville Legends 13-4 on Wednesday to sweep a first-round series.
Wilkes, which had lost by lopsided scores to Mocksville the first two nights, won 4-2 on Wednesday to stay alive in that best-of-five series.
In the Northern Division of Area III, Kernersville finished a sweep of Davidson County, High Point finished off Burlington-Graham, and Winston-Salem ended Western Forsyth’s season.
The drama in the North is in the Eastern Randolph-Randolph series. ER won 6-2 Wednesday and leads the best-of-five series two games to one.

The Rowan County Little League 12U girls won 8-6 Wednesdayagainst King
Rowan plays tonight at 7 p.m. against East Surry in the District 2 final and will have to beat East Surry twice to win the double-elimination tournament.

Carl Thomore’s second- inning grand slam paved the way for the Kannapolis Intimidators’ eighth straight win Thursday.
Kannapolis won 6-4 against Delmarva and is 10-3 in the second half.
Thad Lowry (4-4) matched his career-high with 6.0 innings of work, limiting the Shorebirds to one unearned run on four hits with five strikeouts to earn the win.
Danny Hayes led off the second with a double, and Jacob Morris singled behind him. Brett Austin was hit by a pitch to load the bases, bringing Thomore to the plate with bases loaded in a scoreless game. He smashed a 2-2- pitch over the wall in left-center field for the Intimidators grand slam since Adam Heisler hit one on Aug. 13, 2013.
Ryan Leonards, who joined Kannapolis from Advanced Rookie Great Falls earlier in the day, led off the bottom of the fifth inning with his first professional home run for a 5-1 lead. Leonards, the White Sox 21st round pick in the June First-Year Player Draft, took the roster spot of shortstop Cleuluis Rondon, whom the Sox promoted to Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem.
Adam Engel followed Leonards’ home run with a triple before scoring on a Christian Stringer sac-fly for a 6-1 lead.
Brad Salgado made his Class A debut, pitching two scoreless relief innings and striking out two batters.
In the ninth, Delmarva rallied for three runs, highlighted by a Conor Bierfeldt 2-run double. Bierfeldt later scored from second base on a wild pitch when both the pitcher and catcher chased after the ball into foul territory, leaving home plate uncovered.
The eight-game winning streak is the longest for Kannapolis since the Intimidators won nine in a row from May 25 through June 3, 2012.

Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) had a double and drove in a run for Birmingham in a win on Wednesday.
• Justin Seager (NW Cabarrus) had a double and drove in his 19th run of the season for Clinton on Wednesday.
• Corey Seager (NWC) went 2-for-3 for Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday and pushed his batting average to .350. His 103 hits include 14 homers, 31 doubles and two triples.
• Paul Kronenfeld (Catawba) got his first pro hit for the Arizona League Reds on Monday. He picked up his second RBI on Tuesday, but he’s off to a 1-for-24 start.

College softball
Catawba pitcher Carley Tysinger was named to the College Division All-State softball team. Tysinger, who also made the team as a freshman, was a second team pick.
