SALISBURY — No one was hurt Tuesday morning when a woman hit the gas instead of the brake and her car struck Windsor Gallery Fine Jewelers at the Ketner Center.
Owner Carol Rabon said she heard a loud crack and knew something had hit the building at 1810 W. Innes St. Rabon said her first thought was for the safety of the driver.
Harriett Sides, 76, of Rockwell, said she must have accidentally stepped on the gas pedal as she was pulling into a parking space. Her car drove over the concrete stop and hit the building, then bounced back.
The car came within inches of striking one of the large glass display windows in front of Windsor Gallery.
“We were very fortunate,” Rabon said.
Sides said she had never been in a car accident before and was upset with herself but thankful that it was not worse. Although the car was damaged, the air bags did not deploy.
