Fire officials have not yet determined the cause of a fire that destroyed a longtime wrecker service early Monday. Fire investigators say the fire completely destroyed Patriot Towing, 255 Peeler Road, but there were no injuries reported.
A motorist getting off the interstate called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the building and initially believed the fire was at the business next door, Custom Golf Car Supply.
The call came in at 12:49 a.m. and the fire was under control at 2 a.m., said Fire Investigator Deborah Horne.
Investigators determined the fire began in a back wall inside a bathroom in the building that formerly housed Jack’s Wrecker Service.
Two wreckers were damaged, but none of the customers’ vehicles parked at the business were damaged.
Horne said the metal building was completely destroyed. The following fire and emergency personnel responded: South Salisbury, Locke, Landis, China Grove, Bostian Heights, Salisbury, Rockwell Rural, Millers Ferry fire departments, Rowan County Rescue Squad and the Rowan Fire Marshal’s Office.
The investigation continues into the cause of the fire continues.
