Logan Shuping tied the course record at McCanless with a 9-under 61 while playing a practice round for the Grady B. McCanless 4-Ball Championship.
He was playing with Ben Rollins, Nick Lyerly and Bryson Sprinkle.
• Grace Yatawara qualified with a 72 and has won four rounds of match play in the N.C. Junior Girls Championship at Starmount Country Club in Greensboro.
Yatawara won 2 and 1 against Hickory’s Anna McDonald in a quarterfinal and beat Raleigh’s Holly McCann 2 and 1 in a semifinal. Those matches were played Thursday.
Yatawara is playing for the championship this morning against Sanford’s Siranon Shoomee.
• Mary Seaford made a hole-in-one at McCanless recently. She used a driver to ace the 125-yard No. 10 hole from the red tees.
It was Seaford’s fourth career hole-in-one. Witnessing the feat were Phyllis Myers, Jacob Durham and Brandon Speers.
• McCanless Golf Club hosted a nine-hold Junior Mac Tournament on Thursday.
Jacob Durham shot 38 for first place. Alex Miller shot 39 for second. Durham hd the longest drive.
The third Junior Mac will be held on Thursday, July 10, at 2 p.m.
• Nick Lyerly won the boys overall Carmel Country Club Junior Invitational in Charlotte. Lyerly shot 70-70-140 to win by one shot.
By winning, Lyerly is eligible to participate in the Joe Cheves Junior Invitational on August 23-24 in Morganton.
• The Corbin Hills women hosted their annual Member-Guest.
Winning low low net was the team of Susan Morris and Mechelle Kuld.
Second Net went to the team of Faye Cline and Tami Raynor, 3rd Net went to the team of Eileen Full and Susan Houston and 4th Net went to the team of Tammie Drew and Susan Houston.
Low Gross went to the team of Kristi Laton and Lisa Sepesi and 2nd Gross went to the team of Beth Calhoun and Jenny Butler.
• The 36th Annual Horace Billings Rowan County Amateur Championship registration deadline is fast approaching,
Entry deadline is Wednesday. July 9.
The Championship is open to residents of Rowan County or members of a golf club here in Rowan County. Entry fee is $25.00 and must accompany the qualifying registration form.
Qualifying dates are July 11-13.
The low 31 qualifiers and defending champion Andrew Morgan will advance to the Championship Match Play event from July 18-20.

• Victor Wallace made a birdie 2 on No. 14 to edge John Kyger in a sudden death playoff to win the “Chokers Tournament” at the Country Club of Salisbury.
Ten players started on No. 10 with 1 player being eliminated on each hole until there are only two players left standing after the 9 hole “Choke-Off.”
Wallace played 32 holes in 2-under to cap a great day of golf.
Lee Frick, who shot a 64 in the 18-hole qualifier, bowed out on #No. 17 after making bogey and Andre Resner made it to No. 16 before a bogey eliminated him. In the net competition, James Cotton captured the medalist honors with a 63.

Salisbury graduate Bobby Cardelle, a Catawba signee, was chosen to play in the Clash of the Carolinas on July 12, in Charleston, SC.
Eighteen players are chosen from each state.
Southern Rowan (6-10) lost 3-1 at Stanly on Thursday.
John Daugherty pitched well for Southern, which held a 1-0 lead until the seventh.
• Kannapolis or Concord will miss out on the American Legion playoffs.
Concord finished the regular season with a 2-6 divisional record. Kannapolis is 2-5 and plays this afternoon at 4 p.m. at Southern Rowan in a makeup of game that was washed out earlier.
A win would put Kannapolis in the playoffs as the No. 4 seed.
A Kannapolis loss would mean Kannapolis and Concord, who split with each other, would go to a tiebreaker for fourth place.
Concord coach Tommy Small indicated Thursday night that he believes Concord will have the edge with Kannapolis on the second tiebreaker — runs allowed in divisional play.
Southern (3-3) also is scheduled to play Stanly (4-3) tonight at 7 p.m. in a game that is likely to determine which of those teams has first-round homefield advantage. Rowan has finished with a 7-1 divisional record and will host Kannapolis or Concord on Monday.
• Mocksville won 9-6 against the Mooresville Legends on Thursday.
Logan Davidson had two hits and two RBIs for the Legends. Kane Sutton homered. Hunter Teeter had a run-scoring double.

Junior Legion
South Rowan won 7-0 against West Rowan on Thursday, while Rowan County beat Carson 9-7.

Minor leagues
The Kannapolis Intimidators won 3-1 against Hickory on Thursday.
Christian Stringer drove in all three Kannapolis runs.
• Paul Kronenfeld (Catawba) knocked in his first run in pro ball on Thursday. Joe Watson (Davie, Catawba_ had his first pro strikeout.

China Grove Little League hosts the 10U Area 4 Tournament this weekend.
The China Grove team plays its first game Friday at 8 p.m. The team is coached by Thad Chrismon, Joe Hubbard and Michael Hiskey.
