Mount Zion Missionary celebrates 147th homecoming

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Salisbury will celebrate its 147th homecoming this weekend. Events begin today at 11 a.m. with a fellowship picnic on the church campus. Activities include a youth fashion show, church history exhibit and slide show, recreation and food.
Sunday begins with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and the morning worship at 10:55 a.m. The Creative Expressions Ministry, Kingdom Builders Combined Choirs of Mount Zion, and the Rev. Dr. Nilous M. Avery II, pastor, will lead the worship. Dress is casual.
The the Rev. William H. Clayton, pastor of the Saint James Missionary Baptist Church of Henderson, will speak.
Clayton is a graduate of North Carolina A & T State University, Greensboro, and Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service, Atlanta, Ga. He has done theological and graduate studies at Shaw University Divinity School, RaleighC, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, and Virginia Union School of Theology, Richmond, Va.
The late the Rev. Harry Cowan, a former slave, founded Mount Zion in 1867. Cowan is recognized as a founding father of African-American Baptists in Rowan County and throughout North Carolina. Mount Zion is the second oldest church among African-American Baptists in Salisbury. Rev. Cowan’s contributions have been honored with a state historic marker on North Main Street.

Rose Of Sharon Holiness Church, 255 Camp Road, will celebrate Mens’ Day on Saturday, June 21 today at the 11 a.m. service. Guest speaker will be pastor Perry Dye of Henderson Grove Baptist Church in Salisbury.
Concord — The Piedmont Singing Men will be in concert on Sunday at 6 p.m. at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 301 Mt. Olivet Road.
Ardis Chapel AME Zion Church will honor its pastor, the Rev. Robert N. Bratton, with an appreciation service Sunday at 11 a.m. The church is located at 1940 Old Mocskville Road.

Mission Day will be observed at Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Phyllis Jones, associate minister of Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville. The Rev. Perry Dye is the host pastor.
New Bethel Baptist Church, 3727 US 601 S., will hold its annual Men’s Day program on Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Rodney Elridge, former pastor of Henderson Grove Baptist Church of Salisbury, as the guest speaker.

CLEVELAND — Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 5890 S. River Church Road, will host its 13th appreciation service on Sunday for the Rev. William and the Rev. Winnie Speas, pastor and associate minister of Moore’s Chapel.
Special guest speaker will be the Rev. Harold Jordan, pastor of Third Creek AME Zion Church of Cleveland.
Lunch will be served at 1:45 p.m. The church is located at the corner of Cool Springs and South River Church Roads.
The choir of Rhema Praise and Worship Church will celebrate its third anniversary on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The choir will be in concert and the featured guest will be the Gospel Traveliers of Concord.
The annual homecoming service will be observed Sunday at Erwin Temple. The morning message will be given by the pastor, Rev. Ervin L. Hannah, Jr. and the Mass Choir will sing. Lunch will be served at 1:45 p.m.
Afternoon worship will begin at 3 p.m. Rev. Timothy Bridges and the Shady Grove Baptist Church family of East Spencer will render the service, with music will be provided by the choir.
A three night revival will follow with a different guest minister each night:
Monday: the Rev. Dr. Clary L. Phelps of Gethsemane Baptist Church, Salisbury; Tuesday: the Rev. Burrel Brooks of St. John Baptist Church, Statesville; Wednesday: the Rev. Peris Lester of St. John C.M.E. Church, Winston-Salem.
Services will begin each night at 7 p.m.
Mt. Ulla — Mt. Zion Baptist Church will celebrate its fourth pastoral Anniversary on Sunday at 4 p.m. , honoring pastor Corey and Lady Barr. The guest speaker is pastor Brent Bailey of Grace Kingdom Life Ministries, Wilkesboro.

Cleveland — The appreciation service honoring pastor Rev. Dr. Bertha E. Pittman and William (Bill) Pittman will be held on Sunday at the 11 a.m. service at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church.
The skit “The Glory Train” will be performed by members of the church. Lunch will be served following presentations from various boards.
The annual Men’s Day service will be held at Hall’s Temple Church on N. Long Street. Speaking at 11 a.m. will the Rev. Louis Turner.
The 3:30 p.m. speaker will be the Rev.?Joseph Robinson, pastor of New Creation of Statesville. Host pastor is the Rev. Elder Bruce Jr.
Pastor John Peter Kirubagaran, founder and director of India Transformed and United Evangelical Mission in India, will preach at Salem on Sunday at the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services and a presentation at 9:45 a.m. on UEMI.
Pastor Kirubagaran grew up as a member of an India Evangelical Lutheran Church (IELC) congregation in Bangalore, India.
Kirubagaran currently oversees the three major ministries of UEM: church planting in unreached villages; women’s ministries for economic development and children’s homes to help raise up Christian leaders of tomorrow.
Church planters have established 950 churches in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Indonesia.
A love offering will be received to support UEMI and packets are available to adopt a child.

China Grove — Pine Ridge Baptist Church launched a lunch program last Tuesday and will continue each Tuesday through the summer.
If you are in need of a meal and would like to help, the serving time is 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The church is located at 880 Old Linn Road, which runs between Daugherty and Pine Ridge Roads.

New Zion Baptist Church, 2785 Dunn’s Mountain Roadwill host its annual Youth Revival on Thursday and Friday, June 26 and 27. Services begin at 7 p.m. nightly. The theme is “I’m Chasing After You With a Godly Purpose”.
The guest speakers will be Minister Patrick Jones of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Ulla. All youth groups from area churches are invited.
