SALISBURY — Portraits on the Salisbury mural that were defaced by vandals this week have been cleaned and retouched.
Kaye Brown Hirst and local artist Clyde went to the West Fisher Street mural Thursday morning and made the repairs as best they could. Hirst said slight stains from the vandalism will be visible for awhile but should fade away in time.
Vandals drew on the faces of 10 different male characters, giving them mustaches and/or chin hair. The likenesses of more than 100 local citizens are part of the 1980 mural, which is titled “Crossroads — Past and Present.”
