N.C. Highway Patrol officials have identified the Mocksville man who was killed Thursday in a crash at N.C. 801 as John Alexander. But they still want to speak with the driver of an older model convertible Ford Mustang they believe may have key information.
Alexander, 31, died after he lost control of his Honda motorcycle, traveled off the left side of the roadway and was thrown from his motorcycle.
First Sgt. E.T. Suttles said Friday they believe they know who the driver of the Mustang is, but they have not been able to confirm it.
“Someone contacted us saying they know someone with the a similar car. We possibly know who it is,” he said.
However, as of Friday afternoon, officials have not been contacted by the driver. The person told troopers they believed the driver lives in the area.
The wreck happened at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, and the motorcycle ended up in the cemetery at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church among tombstones. Alexander came to rest about 65 feet beyond the motorcycle.
A witness told Trooper K.G. Barringer the Mustang and motorcyclist passed her going at high speeds traveling east.
The driver of the Mustang merged back into the right lane in front of the witness while Alexander and the motorist continued side-by-side, both speeding.
Officials aren’t sure if the driver of the car and Alexander collided, but that’s one reason they would like to talk with the driver.
