Choir anniversary tonight at Moore’s Chapel AME Zion

CLEVELAND — Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church will celebrate its 44th choir anniversary this evening at 7 p.m. The church is located at 5890 S. River Road. For more information, call 704-278-2885.
KANNAPOLIS — Tonight at 7:30 p.m., Ambassador Christian College, 1501 South Main St., will host a Christian singles speed dating event.
It is geared especially for those in their 20s and 30s, however all single people over the age of 18 are welcome. This is a Christian singles event and no smoking or drinking is permitted, but you MUST be 18 or over to attend. Refreshments will be provided. There will be no child care available.

On the road to diabetes? Find out with a simple test provided by Crown In Glory Lutheran Church’s health and wellness ministry. The free pre-diabetes test is available to the community and only takes a few minutes. The test will be given at the church, 517 E. Bank St., on Sunday, May 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Deadline to register for the church’s biggest loser challenge is today. There is a $50 registration fee. Entrants receive a T-shirt and are eligible for cash prizes. The challenge runs from May 3 through Aug. 9. First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury will collect a special “2 cents a meal” offering at all three services on Sunday to help feed the hungry in our community, country, and throughout the world.
“2 cents a meal” is a small first step in the battle against hunger and poverty where church members of all ages contribute a few cents at every meal. This simple act is an expression of thanks as well as a commitment to share with others. These coins will be received and dedicated at the sanctuary services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. and the Life Center Worship (contemporary) service in Lewis Hall at 8:50 a.m.
China Grove — South China Grove United Methodist Church, 230 Rose Ave., will host its annual Holy Humor Sunday at the regular 9:30 a.m. service.
This is a time of worship with humor and laughing at the devil, since Christ won and he lost during the time of the crucifixion and resurrection. Everything from the Sunday morning bulletin to the worship time to the sermon will be filled with humor.
A brief fellowship time will be held between worship and Sunday school. Doc Warner is the pastor.
Rhema Praise and Worship Church will celebrate Pastor Alonza Williams Sr. and First Lady Minister Joyce Williams’ third anniversary on Sunday,
Minister Mark Williams will speak at 11 a.m. and Pastor John Leazer at 3 p.m. Both speakers are from Macedonia Baptist Church in Concord.
The women of Third Creek AME Zion Church will host a Women’s Day program on Sunday at 11 a.m. on the theme of “Christian Women Standing on the Promise of God.”
The speaker is the Rev. Mildred Lawson, associate minister at Marable Memorial AME Zion Church. All women are asked to wear white with pastel accessories.
Lunch will be served in the Glenn G. Grayson fellowship hall at 1:30 p.m. The afternoon program at 3 p.m. features the Unity of Praise Gospel singers of Salisbury.

The 25th anniversary celebration which began at Holy Tabernacle of Jesus Christ on Wednesday, continues at 11 a.m. tomorrow with speaker Overseer Priscilla Overstreet, who will be assisted by co-pastor Calvin Overstreet of Holy Tabernacle. The church is located at 325 Malcolm Road.
China Grove — Southside Church of God will hold a one day revival on Sunday with the Rev. Lessie Williams, evangelist and recording artist. Service times are 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Cleveland — The church anniversary will be observed at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church at the 11 a.m. worship service. The Rev. Michelle Rambert, associate pastor at Little Rock AME Zion Church of Charlotte, will be the guest speaker.
The Rev. Dr. Bertha E. Pittman is host pastor.
Erwin Temple CME Church will observe its 88th church anniversary on Sunday. The morning message will be given by the pastor, the Rev. Ervin Hannah. Music will be rendered by the Mass Choir. Lunch will be served at 1:45 p.m.
Afternoon worship will begin at 3 p.m. Special guests will be the Rev. Clarence W. Cox, pastor of Hanes Memorial CME Church of Winston Salem. The choir will provide music for the service.
In addition, there will be special recognitions during the service. The church was organized in 1926 and the first church was built in 1929. The building of a new church was completed in 1997 where worship is presently held. Thirty-two ministers have served Erwin Temple through the years. The Rev. Ervin L. Hannah Jr. has served as pastor since July 2006.
Boxwood Missionary Baptist Church will host a special service titled “Where is Your Faith” on Sunday at 2 p.m. Guest speaker for the occasion will be the Rev. William Cowan of New Bethel Baptist Church of Mocksville.
EAST SPENCER — Shady Grove Baptist Church, 600 S. Long St., will celebrate its 95th anniversary at 3 p.m. on Sunday, in a singing event open to the public. The event is sponsored by Usher Board #1, Charles Evans, president.
Lexington — Pastor Edward Smith and congregation of Melita Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 Mt. Shepherd Road in Asheboro, will be worshipping with the Blessing of God Ministry at 412 West Side Drive on Sunday at 3 p.m.
WOODLEAF — The Usher Board of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church will sponsor a Hatitude program on Sunday beginning at 3 p.m. Women, men and children are asked to participate during the parade of hats. A panel of judges will select and award first, second and third prize winners during the event.
Arneda Taylor-Harper, a member of Mt. Vernon, will be the speaker for the program. She is active with the historical committee, is a co-advisor for the youth group and is the organizer of Mt. Vernon’s first liturgical dance groups. In addition, she works with the special needs student population at Salisbury High School.
Refreshments will be served prior to the program. Mt. Vernon is located on Carson Road. Dr. Emery Rann is pastor.
Macedonia Baptist church, 2865 Enon Church Road, will celebrate the retirement of Rev. William T. Jackson on Sunday at 3 p.m.. Rev. Jackson has served as pastor for over 33 years. The message will be brought by Rev. Tommy Walker, Citadel of Faith, Thomasville. Refreshments will be served after the service.
CONCORD — New Beginning Church of God, 5717 Alexander Road, will celebrate its 11th church anniversary on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The guest speaker will be Bishop C. R. Minor of Mt. Calvary Holiness Church of Statesville. Trinity 3 from Troutman will also be on hand for the occasion.
New Beginning’s pastor is Bishop Gene Roseman.
Providence AME Zion Church, 2415 Providence Church Road, will celebrate Deaconess Day on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Guest speaker for the occasion will be Sister Elonda Brown, local preacher at Sills Creek AME Zion Church.
Woodleaf — The Gospel Plowboys will be singing Sunday night at Woodleaf Baptist Church, in a night of song and testimony. The service gets underway at 6 p.m.
The U.M.A. will host its joint fellowship service at 7 p.m. on Sunday at St. Luke Baptist Church, 410 Hawkinstown Road. Rev. Arthur Heggins is the host pastor. Rev. Paul Jones Sr., pastor emeritus of New Zion Baptist Church, will bring the message.
China Grove — Next Saturday, May 3, Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, 750 Mt. Moriah Church Road, will host a Bluegrass Gospel Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Bring a lawn chair plus family and friends for lunch and musical performances by 5 ‘N a Tub, Strings of Victory, Troutman Church of God Bluegrass Gospel Band and The Southern Cloggers.
There is no charge for admission, but donations appreciated. There will be hotdogs, hamburgers and drinks for sale. All proceeds will benefit the Mt. Moriah youth going to Flatwoods, W.Va. this summer on the CHAOS mission trip. In case of rain, the event will be held in the fellowship hall.
A concert of the First Calvary Baptist Church Contemporary Choir will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 4 p.m. The choir is observing its seventh anniversary. Members are Herbert Jeter, Keisha Sherrill, Leah Brown, Beatrice Brown, Janeria McCullough, Annanora Short, Jabri Walker, Kolisha Sheffield, Shanae Webb, Melba Allen and Lorna Ray.
Members are requesting donations of new undergarments which will be given to Capstone Recovery Center, a residential housing facility for women in Rowan County.
