Five from Rowan headed for Governor’s School

Five Rowan-Salisbury School System students have been chosen to attend the 2014 session of the Governor’s School of North Carolina.
This year’s five-week program begins June 15 and ends July 23 with a break from July 3-6.
Jessica Gada from West Rowan High School and Carolina Billingsley from North Rowan High School will be attending Governor’s School East and concentrating on English.
Jordan Rogers from East Rowan High School will also be attending Governor’s School East and will be concentrating on natural science.
Emily Wilhelm and Austin Pinion from Jesse Carson High School will be attending Governor’s School West. Wilhelm will concentrate on English, while Pinion will concentrate on social science.
The Governor’s School is held at two locations: Governor’s School East is located on the campus of Meredith College in Raleigh and Governor’s School West is located on the campus of Salem College in Winston-Salem.
Four hundred students are chosen to attend Governor’s School at each of the two locations.
Governor’s School is a five-week summer residential program for intellectually gifted high school rising seniors.
The Public Schools of North Carolina, the State Board of Education and the Department of Public Instruction through the Exceptional Children Division administer the program and a Board of Governors, appointed by the State Board of Education acts as an advisory board.
