Omar Bautista pitched a shutout, striking out seven and scattering eight hits, to lead West Rowan to a 6-0 SPC win at Cox Mill on Thursday.
West scored four runs in the fourth inning.
Juan Garcia drove in three runs for the Falcons. Michael Ball had two hits.
The win guarantees West a top-five finish in the SPC and West will be in the 3A state playoffs unless a lower seeded team wins the conference tournament,
• East Rowan won 4-2 at Central Cabarrus on Thursday in SPC action and has clinched a tie for first place.
East (12-2 SPC) trailed 2-1 in the fifth when Samuel Wyrick drove in two runs to change the game.
Chase Jarrett was the winning pitcher. Joseph Peeler relieved Jarrett in the fifth and earned a save.
• Carson won 6-1 at Hickory Ridge in SPC play on Thursday. Colton Laws struck out six in four innings for the win. John Daugherty pitched three hitless innings for the save.
Heath Mitchem had two hits, including a double. Christian Houpe, John Patella and Daugherty drove in runs. Bryston Prugh was able to return to action, as Wednesday’s incident at the plate was written up as a disqualification, not an ejection.
• South Rowan won 4-0 against Central Davidson on Thursday in non-conference action. Bryan “Trout” Hallman and Chase Labbe got the job done on the mound for South, with Hallman working six strong innings.
Chandler Corriher had a big double for the Raiders.
• North (5-3 CCC) beat Thomasville 9-1 in league play on Thursday. Noah Gonzalez was the winning pitcher for the Cavaliers.
• North rolled 13-1 against Thomasville in a five-inning CCC game on Wednesday.
Brandon White, Henderson Lentz and Noah Gonzalez drove in two runs each for the Cavaliers.
• Davie beat Parkland 11-1 on Thursday in the CPC. Carson Bishop pitched a complete game for the War Eagles (6-11, 3-6 CPC). Elijah Jones drove in three runs. Brandon Lankford scored three. Chris Reynolds had a triple.
• A.L. Brown won 3-2 against Robinson in MECKA play on Thursday.
Zach Mullinax tripled to score Kameron Sherrill, and Mullinax scored on a hit by Christian Griffin for a 2-1 A.L. Brown lead in the third. Geoffery Jarvis drove in Griffin for a 3-1 lead in the seventh. Robinson loaded the bases and had the tying run at third in the seventh, but a squeeze bunt failed and Trace Hagler’s 12th strikeout ended the game.
• East Davidson won 11-1 against Lexington on Thursday to stay unbeaten in the CCC. Nathan Campbell hit two homers for the Golden Eagles. Nick Williams and Tyler Rhodes combined on a two-hitter.
• The Greater Cabarrus Homeschool Stallions lost 5-0 to the Charlotte Stampede.
Hunter Shepherd had a double for the Stallions (12-3), who will play the East Rowan jayves Friday at Staton Field and the West Rowan jayvees at Staton on Saturday.
In Wednesday’s CCC golf championships at the Country Club of Salisbury, Salisbury shot 318 and won by five strokes over West Davidson.
The top indivduals Wednesday were North Rowan’s Tyler Mulkey and East Davidson’s Scott Swaim with 73s.
Salisbury’s Eric Edwards shot 75. West Davidson’s Nathan Curry (77) and Zach Michael (79) were next.
Other Salisbury scorers Wednesday were Chris Queen (80), Abraham Post (81) and Gabe Steinman (82).
Salisbury’s John Murphy shot 86 for 10th place, and Jacob Pryor shot 87.
North’s other scorers were Austin Wagoner (90), Luke Miller (101) and Steven Thurston (107).
For the season, Salisbury was CCC champion at 1,121. West Davidson (1,166), East Davidson (1,271) and North Rowan ((1,356) were next.
Edwards shot 221 and was the medalist for the season. Mulkey finished at 224, while Curry shot 227.
South Rowan won 3-1 against Hickory Ridge in SPC softball on Thursday.
The Raiders prevailed on Senior Night for Logan Lowery and Kacie Stamey.
Samantha Kennerly had the key hit, clearing the bases with a double.
Lowery was the winning pitcher and struck out five. Abby Fields had two hits for the Raiders.
• West Rowan romped 16-1 against Concord in SPC play on Thursday.
Hunter Gibbons had three hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs. Brianna Turner, Marissa Yow and Kristine South had two hits each. Leah McCoy was the winning pitcher and struck out seven.
• Carson lost 10-6 to Northwest Cabarrus in SPC play on Thursday.
Mariah Morgan had two hits, including a three-run double to lead the Cougars. Morgan Peninger, Rachel Freeze and Kayln Ellenburg had hits for Carson.
• Central Cabarrus topped Cox Mill 8-5 on Thursday in a matchup of SPC contenders.
In the SPC tennis tournament at Concord’s Myers Park, East Rowan’s team of Ike Emerson and Chance Brown, both sophomores, won doubles.
Emerson-Brown won 8-2 against a Northwest Cabarrus duo in the first round, topped a Central Cabarrus team 8-3 in the second round, beat a Cox Mill team 6-2, 6-1 in the third round and won 2-6, 6-4 (10-4) against a Concord team in the final.
• East’s doubles team of seniors Evan Rogers and Justin Allen won matches against Central Cabarrus and Hickory Ridge teams. They lost in the third round to Concord but will join Emerson-Brown in the regionals.
East freshman Robert Gray won 8-6 against Cox Mill’s Ishaan Phadnis and 8-6 aginst Central Cabarrus’ Jacob Lowder. Gray lost to Northwest’s SPC Player of the Year Kyle Kennedy 6-1, 6-1 in a semifinal but still qualified for regionals.
East junior Jeremy Price won 8-1 against South Rowan’s Donte Hill in the first round but lost to Carson’s Graham Purcell 8-1 in the second round and to Cox Mill’s Phadnis in the backdraw.
Gray Stone’s Ian Lins, a four-year starter and a two-year captain, signed with Pfeiffer on Wednesday.
An All-YVC pick, Lins will be playing for Pfeiffer coach Bob Reasso, a Pfeiffer alum who led Rutgers for 29 years.
“We are are extremely proud of Ian and excited that he has chosen Pfeiffer University and Coach Reasso to continue his playing career,” Gray Stone coach Jeff Morris said. “He’s been an integral part of our program for a long time.”

Lyndsey Moore and Cassie Howard scored goals in Carson’s 2-0 SPC win against South Rowan on Thursday.
Earlier, Carson (11-1, 10-1) won 9-0 against East Rowan.
The Kannapolis Intimidators lost 4-3 at home to the West Virginia Power on Thursday. The Power rallied from a 3-1 deficit and has beaten the Intimidators 13 straight times since 2012.
Tied for first place, the Catawba Indians (26-16, 19-7 SAC) host Carson-Newman tonight at 6 p.m. and in a doubleheader on Saturday at Newman Park.
In a Low Net Sweet 16 format. Kristi Laton shot 74 for first place in a Country Club of Salisbury women’s event. Bev Cobb shot 83, and Susan Wydner finished at 91.
The North Rowan Middle Mavericks beat Erwin 7-1. McGwire Smith was the winning pitcher. He struck out six and allowed three hits. Will Anthony had two hits and two RBIs. Preston Eagle also had two hits.
Knox won 7-2 against Southeast. Singles winners for Knox (8-1) were Simon Post, Roarke Burton, Cole Goodnight and Luke Grenoble. Doubles winners were Post-Goodnight, Burton-Grenoble and Zach Chichester-John Burris.
Testing in preparation for the ARCA Racing Series International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 at Talladega Superspeedway wrapped up Thursday at the 2.66-mile track in preparation for the Saturday, May 3 event.
Justin Allison (West Rowan) posted his best speed Wednesday afternoon at 182.442 mph.
