Catawba has announced four more football recruits, including quarterbacks Alex Thornton (Robinson) and Kyle Duiett (Hough).
Also joining Catawba’s program will be Cary Panther Creek DB Alex Slusser and Garner defensive lineman Terry Whitehead.
• Catawba football held its final full scrimmage on Saturday. The official Spring Game is April 12 at 11 a.m.
On Saturday, Mike Sheehan ran for a TD and threw a TD pass to Shawn Galloway (East Rowan). Jamal Lackey (Davie) had an 85-yard interception return for a TD. Jonathan Jean blocked a field goal.
Trey Mashore (West Rowan) scored on a 58-yard run. Jalen Forrest made an interception. Sheehan had 52 rushing yards, and Cary Littlejohn had some nice runs.
Diante Hodges had three receptions. Trey Evans was the top tackler.
“Our team has shown a great competitive edge throughout our spring practices,” Catawba coach Curtis Walker said.
• Catawba’s tennis teams lost to Anderson on Friday. The Catawba women (11-13, 3-7) fell 5-4, while the Catawba men (8-15, 1-9) lost 7-2.
• Coker scored the first seven goals and held off Catawba’s men’s lacrosse team 11-7 on Saturday in Hartsville, S.C. Pete Wessleman made 11 saves for the Indians (6-6, 4-2), Davis Hughes scored twice for the Indians.
• Catawba’s softball team lost 3-2 and 1-0 at Anderson on Saturday.
Holli Chandler homered in the opener for Catawba (22-13, 7-7). Carley Tysinger drove in a run and struck out eight but still took the loss.
Caroline Turner pitched well in the nightcap for the Indians, but Lauren Rudesheim threw a three-hitter for Anderson (31-9, 9-5).
• Meredith Jones scored in overtime to lift Catawba’s women’s soccer team to an 11-10 win at Coker on Saturday. Catawba got three goals each from Jones, Ebony Mills and Alyssa Corace. Bethany Davis made 17 saves.
• Catawba’s women’s lacrosse team also won on Sunday. Catawba beat Young Haris 15-8.
Jones and Corace scored three goals each for the Indians (7-6), and Mills had two goals and two assists.
Charlotte running back Kalif Phillips (A.L. Brown) missed Saturday’s Green-White Spring Game because of shoulder surgery.
He was Charlotte’s leading rusher last season.
Charlotte’s Corbin Shive (East Rowan) hit his team-leading fourth homer on Saturday in a 4-1 win against Evansville.
Shive has four homers and 12 RBIs in just 56 at-bats.
• Army’s Jon Crucitti (West Rowan) went 3-for-6 in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Lafayette and is batting .354 for the season.
Crucitti leads the Black Knights with 24 runs and has hit three triples.
• Liberty’s Carson Herndon (Davie) combined on a 4-0 shutout of VMI with two other hurlers. Herndon struck out six.
• Eric Tyler (South Rowan) scored a run in East Carolina’s 3-2 win at No. 12 Rice on Friday.
Pfeiffer freshman Sydnety Poole (East Rowan) pitched a one-hitter and struck out 10 in an 8-0 win against Johnson C. Smith.
• Elon’s Chelsea White (East) was the winning pitcher in relief in Saturday’s 5-4 victory against Chattanooga.
White (8-6) struck out two in two innings.
• Katherine Starnes (South Rowan) had two of Belmont Abbey’s four hits in a 7-0 loss to North Greenville on Saturday.
•BA’s Samantha Jacobs (North Rowan) pitched a complete game in a 3-2 loss to North Greenville. She allowed only three hits but lost in the eighth inning.
• North Carolina A&T’s Zebresha Blakeney (A.L. Brown) had three hits and scored four runs in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Florida A&M.
The Greater Cabarrus Homeschool Stallions split a doubleheader with Triad Homeschool. In a 4-2 victory, Caleb Threadgill and Dalton Lankford and Noah Jarrett had two hits each. Hunter Shepherd doubled. Jarrett was the winning pitcher.
• In an 8-7 loss, Threadgill, Lankford, Tyler Hartsell and Travis Cone had two hits each for the Stallions (10-1). Shepherd doubled.
South Rowan junior Davis Richards placed second in the Jimmy Anderson Junior Boys Invitational held in Jackonsville over the weekend.
Davis shot 71-75 — 146 and finished two shots behind Huntersville’s Patrick Cover.
East Rowan sophomore Logan Shuping shot 78-75 — 153 and tied for 18th.
Sacred Heart’s Michael Childress shot 80-74 — 154 and tied for third in the boys 13-15 division.
• Georgia State won the Irish Creek Collegiate.
• In a Snowball Express tournament at Crescent, Andy Winders-Tommy Bright shot 63 to win gross.
Grey Medinger-Gus Andrews and Jared Barnette-Jason Barnette shot 64s.
Russ Priddy-Mike Priddy shot 62 to win net. Mike Harrison-Wayne Tate shot 63.
• Weekly shootouts are held at Crescent. The next one is April 10 at 5:30 p.m.
The cost is $11 for members and $17 for guests.

• The McCanless Couples played a Captain’s Choice event on Sunday.
The first-place team was Glenn Trexler, Jacob Durham, Walt Kincaid and Kim Kincaid. The second-place team was David Huneycutt, Deb Alverman, Gene Seaford and Mary Seaford.
Trexler won closest to the pin, while Tammie Drew won longest putt.
The Kannapolis Intimidators hit three homers and beat Greensville 8-5 to split the opening series of the South Atlantic League season.
Adam Engel’s three-run homer put the Intimidators ahead to stay.
Danny Hayes and Trey Michalczewski also homered. Michalczewski’s homer was inside-the-park.
